Seward Outmatched Against ASA Miami and ABAC

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The #4 Seward County women's tennis team at the end of a double header is now 0-2. First the Lady Saints took on #3 ASA Miami and lost 0-9 and then in the second match the ladies had a lot more fight in their game, but still fell to #5 Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) 3-6.  

MATCH ONE RECAP

With new team rankings released, the #4 Lady Saints faced #3 ASA Miami in an evenly matched game and after being started and postponed twice, the Lady Saints were in for a unique match.

In doubles No.3 Lady Saints pair Yusra Hegy and Martina Borges lost to Andrea Sandoval and Vanessa Cozamanis 2-8. Following them was No.1 Patricia Panta and Steffany Bermudez who lost 3-8 to Lisa Khamassi and Sarah Wardenburg. FInal was No.2 Alena Macharova and Maria Aveiga who lost to Kyra Akinnibi and Claudia Barboza 2-8.

Singles had many close matches but the Saints couldn't get ahead. First to finish was No.4 Bermudez who lost to Wardenburg 1-6, 2-6. Following her was No.1 Panta who faced Khamassi who clenched the match for ASA after winning 6-2, 3-6, 10-4. Next was No.5 Borges who lost 5-7, 1-6.

The next three were fought hard, but couldn't find a win by No.6, No.2 and No.3. Hegy at 3 lost 3-6,2-6, Aveiga at 2 lost 6-0, 5-7, 3-10. Last, Macharova lost at 3 5-7, 2-6.

The Lady Saints took a match break and then prepared themselves to face ABAC that evening.

MATCH TWO RECAP

The Lady Saints started this match with a will to win and they fought down to the last two matches, but couldn't finish. By the end of the match, you could see the ladies were hurting.

Doubles started with No.2 Aveiga and Macharova losing 3-8 against Agustina Diaz and Vasavi Ganesan Shanthi then No.3 Hegy and Borges fell to #18 ranked team Cyrielle Peyroche and Mathilde Lirzin 0-8. The Lady Saints finally got a win on the day by #6 ranked team Panta and Bermudez who defeated #5 ranked team Celia Morel and Julia Tozzi Azevedo 9-8.

As the Saints trail 1-2 going into singles but the ladies finally gained a lead. No.1 Panta finished first defeating Morel 6-3, 2-0 after Morel unfortunatly got injured during the match and had to default. That made it a 2-2 match with No.3 finishing next where Macharova defeated Diaz 6-2, 6-1 giving the Lady Saints the lead.

Next was a close match with Bermudez at No.4, but she lost 5-7, 3-6 against Tozzi Azevedo making it a tied game again 3-3. No.2 Aveiga finished nex losing to Ganesan Shanthi 2-6, 1-6. No.5 was next with Borges losing to Peyroche 5-7, 0-6 and also rolling her ankle before the second set. Last was No.6 Hegy who lost 4-6, 5-7 in close sets with Lirzin.

The Lady Saints lost 3-6 to ABAC, but fought hard and still have one more match to play down in Florida against #23 Meridian Community College.
