The Lady Saints fall in the Region VI Semifinals to Hutchinson

SALINA, Kan. - Seward County Community College falls to Hutchinson Community College 92-84 in the Region VI Semifinals as the Lady Saints season came to a close. The Lady Saints ended their season with an overall record of 22-10. Sierra Lynch led the way for Seward county as the sophomore scored a career-high 27 points, and added four rebounds. The Blue Dragons went on to win the Region VI tournament as they defeated Barton Community College 82-66.

To start the game both teams traded off baskets as the Lady Saints found themselves down 10-9 after a Hulda Joaquim layup with 5:23 left in the first quarter. D'Arrah Allen connected on a right-wing three to cut the blue Dragon lead down to two points 18-16. Hutchinson went on a 6-2 run to close out the first quarter as Seward County trailed 24-18 heading into the second quarter. 

In the first three minutes of action in the third quarter, the Lady Saints faced their largest deficit of the game so far with Hutchinson in front 34-23. Both teams traded off baskets with the Blue Dragons still in front 36-27 at the media timeout in the second quarter. Sierra Lynch connected on a three straight away to cut the Hutchinson lead down to 42-39 with 20 seconds left in the quarter. After a pair of free throws for the Blue Dragons, the Lady Saints inbounded the ball with two seconds left that led to a steal and a field goal at the buzzer for Hutchinson. Seward County went into halftime trailing 46-39 after a four-point swing in the final 20 seconds.

The third quarter started with the Lady Saints down 56-43 in the first three minutes of action. Zhane Thompson went coast to coast to cut the lead down to seven points, 53-60 with 4:12 left in the quarter. Sydney Wetlaufer followed up with a three to get the Lady Saints within four points, 62-58. Wetlaufer continued her hot shooting with a floater before the buzzer as Seward County headed into the fourth quarter down 68-62.

The Blue Dragons start the fourth quarter with an 11-3 run to lead 79-68 with six minutes left in the contest. The Lady Saints responded with an 11-2 run to cut the lead down to one point, 80-79 after a three by Wetlaufer with 3:10 left on the clock. The Blue Dragons ended the contest with a 12-5 run to defeat the Lady Saints.

Seward County was paced by Sierra Lynch's 27 points, Sydney Wetlaufer added 14 points, and De'Shawnti Thomas provided 12 points as well.

Seward County finished the season with a 22-10 overall record and finished third during the regular season in the KJCCC.
