Lady Saints Capture Win Number 20

PRATT, Kan. – The No. 10 Seward County Lady Saints won in blow out fashion on the road in the Beaver Dome, defeating the Pratt Beavers 97-48.  The win was the 51st straight in the series against Pratt and 13th straight win on the season.

The Lady Saints came out aggressive on defense, coming away with their first six points from Pratt turnovers.  Seward jumped out to a 13-1 lead over the first six minutes.  A fifth foul in the quarter put the Beavers in the bonus and sent them to the free throw line, starting a 6-0 run.  Seward held Pratt to without a field goal for the first seven minutes of the quarter.  Pratt started connecting on their shots, but the Lady Saints kept their distance, leading 24-12 at the end of the first quarter.

The teams came out trading baskets to begin the second quarter, but midway through, with the score at 32-20, the Lady Saints began pouring it on.  Over the final five minutes of the quarter, Seward held the Beavers to without a shot made, going on a 12-0 run to end the half.  Seward took a 44-20 lead into the break.

The Lady Saints forced the Beavers into 21 first half turnovers, while holding Pratt to 33.3 percent (7 of 21) from the floor and 30.8 percent (4 of 13) from deep.  Seward shot 44.4 percent (16 of36) from the field and 33.3 (7 of 21) from deep.

The Lady Saints used a strong second half to extend their already large lead, scoring 26 points in the third quarter and 27 points in the fourth quarter.  Seward shot 46.2 percent (18 of 39) from the floor in the second half and 41.7 percent (10 of 24) from behind the arc.

Two Lady Saints scored in double figures.  Kalen Green came away with a career-high 19 points off the bench, while Brennyn Seagler added 11 points.  Seagler also came away with 10 rebounds to record her first-career double-double.

Seward came away with a 46-29 rebounding advantage and forced the Beavers into 32 turnovers.  The Lady Saints used those turnovers to create a 50-2 point off turnover advantage. Seward came away with 51 points from behind the arc.

This marks the 26th straight season that the Lady Saints have won at least 20 games.
