Lady Saints Fans Catch Glimpse of 2015-2016 Squad at Preview Night

Lady Saints Fans Catch Glimpse of 2015-2016 Squad at Preview Night

The Seward County Saints and Lady Saints, along with the Seward County spirit squads were on display for the first time in 2015-2016 Tuesday night in the Greenhouse at the annual Saints Bookstore Basketball Preview Night.

The evening began with an autograph signing, giving fans their first chances to interact with the 2015-2016 Saints and Lady Saints.

Next up, the teams headed to the Greenhouse to get the nights events started.  First up was basketball musical chairs which saw competitors from a number of different ages compete against one another until finally just one chair was left to claim.

The coaches' free throw contest was next with Toby Wynn and DeAudra Brown taking on Bryan Zollinger and Patrick Nee.  A hot streak by Coach Wynn once again propelled the Lady Saints to a 28-24 victory in the two minute competition to give the Lady Saints side a dominating lead in the all-time series.

In a new event for 2015, six Saints and six Lady Saints split to form two six person teams for a dribble relay competition.  Fans were picked out of the stands to serve as obstacles for the dribblers and it was a hotly contested competition before the team of Jeromie Simmons, James Byrd, Delwin Young, Clitan de Sousa, Axelle Bernard, and 6'7 Joanna Grymek, the teams anchor, brought home the victory.

A fan  favorite, the dizzy bat competition drew out six brave Seward County students that had to spin around with their head on a baseball bat before regaining their wits to make a shot at the other end of the court.  The duo anchored by Saints tennis player Christian Kurz claimed victory, staying upright throughout the competition unlike the other four competitors.

After a blowout in the Battle of the Sexes three point contest a season ago in favor of the Lady Saints, the Saints vowed revenge in 2015, but once again the Lady Saints outshot the fellas, getting a 4-4 rack from Erin Richardson and the dagger from Tiani White to knock off the Saints 33-30.

The youngsters got their chance to take the court next in the uniform relay.  The problem was, the uniforms and shoes they had to don were about 10 times too big for them.  With jerseys on backwards and shorts falling to the ground, the three schoolboys found their way to the basket and all made shots to mimic their favorite Saints stars.

The highlight of the night, the Slam Dunk Contest was next to wrap up the contest portion of the night.  Freshman Charles Beauregard impressed early to advance to the finals while Niem Stevenson made a triumphant return to the court with a perfect 40 on his second slam to join Beauregard in the finals.  Stevenson took a four point lead after the first dunk of the finals, but Beauregard came from behind with a slam on his final attempt to knock off Stevenson and claim the 2015 Slam Dunk Contest Championship.

The Cheerleaders and Saintsations Dance Team took center stage next, entertaining the crowd with a creative performance.

Once the cheerleaders were done, the lights went out and fans got their first real introduction to the 2015-2016 Saints and Lady Saints as they hurled t-shirts throughout the excited crowd.

The two teams then went on to intersquad scrimmage, the white team edging out the green team on the women's side 14-13 and the white team also collecting a win in the men's game 21-18.
