The Seward County Lady Saints Basketball team received the top academic honor that the NJCAA hands out on Wednesday as it was announced by the governing body that the Lady Saints have been named the 2015-2016 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year in Women’s Basketball. It marks the second time in Head Coach Toby Wynn’s career that the Lady Saints have been bestowed the honor and the sixth time overall.

Lady Saints Basketball Coach Toby Wynn would has announced his summer basketball camps for the 2016 summer. For the 12th consecutive summer there will be the opportunity for area High School and Junior High teams to come to the Greenhouse to compete in Seward team camps. Teams are guaranteed to play nine games over three days against competition from all across the region.

Following a 25 win season and runner-up finishes in the Jayhawk Conference and the Region VI Tournament, three Seward County Lady Saints have been named All-Conference as announced by the league Monday. Sophomore Axelle Bernard was the Lady Saints top vote getter, garnering 1st Team All-Conference accolades, while freshman Joanna Grymek also earned a 1st Team All-Conference nod and sophomore Daniela Galindo picks up 2nd Team All-Conference honors.

The Seward County Lady Saints went into the Region VI Championship game on Thursday night in Hartman Arena as hot as they could possibly be. Seward was winners of nine straight including solid victories over rivals Butler and #12 Hutchinson the two days prior. All of that momentum came to a screeching halt early on Thursday on the biggest stage of all as one win from the NJCAA National Tournament, the Lady Saints shot just 20% in the first quarter to fall behind the Cowley Tigers early and led the game for just 43 seconds as Cowley held them in check all night in a 67-57 final to send the Tigers to the Big Dance while likely ending the Lady Saints season.

For the third time this season the Seward County Lady Saints and Hutchinson Lady Blue Dragons hooked up on the hardwood Wednesday in the Region VI Semifinals at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kansas. Also for the third time, it was a battle until the end and for the second time this season, the Seward County Lady Saints came out victorious, slaying the Dragons 72-65 to advance to the Region VI Championship game Thursday at 5:00 against the Cowley Tigers.

The #24 Seward County Lady Saints remained red hot Tuesday afternoon in Park City’s Hartman Arena, using a shutdown defense over the final three quarters to knock off the Butler Lady Grizzlies 77-61 to advance to the Region VI Tournament round of four on Wednesday.

It’s the opening round of the 2016 Region VI Tournament tonight in the Greenhouse as the #13 seed Pratt Lady Beavers come to town to take on the #4 seed Seward County Lady Saints. The winner of tonight’s game will advance to the quarterfinal round on Tuesday in Park City where they will take on the winner of the Butler/Allen game at 7:00 at Hartman Arena while the loser will call it a year.

The Seward County Lady Saints got off to a hot start and never looked back Thursday night as they took on the Pratt Lady Beavers in the 1st round of the 2016 NJCAA Region VI Tournament. Seward jumped out to an 8-2 lead and used a 16-0 run in the first half to put the Beavers away early, winning 86-56 to capture their 50th straight win in their rivalry with Pratt. Seward advances to take on the Butler Grizzlies Tuesday in the Region VI Quarterfinals in Park City.
