Seda, Artis, & Bernard Keep Seward Streaking Over Beavers

All good things must come to an end, which includes Seward's current absurd series win streak against the Pratt Lady Beavers.  Unfortunately for Pratt, that time didn't come Wednesday in the Beaverdome as freshmen Tamara Seda, Brooklyn Artis, and Axelle Bernard powered a well-oiled Lady Saints mache past the Beavers for the 47th time in a row by a count of 76-50 to pick up their second Jayhawk West win in three days.

Following a small stretch of outings in which they didn't shoot the ball particularly well, #8 Seward came out on fire Wednesday night in the Beaverdome, wasting no time in jumping out to a 13-5 lead on the home team just 3:20 into the contest.  The Lady Saints continued to land body blows on the Beavers, pushing their advantage to 30-14 by the midway point of the half.  Seward's concerted effort to pound the ball to Tamara Seda and Axelle Bernard continued to pay off as the final minutes of the first half ticked off the clock, eventually by the final horn, with Seward on top comfortably 46-30.

Despite going just 2 for 13 from the three point line, Seward shot 46% in the first half and turned the ball over just 2 times in the first 20 minutes.  Seda finished the first period with 14 points and 8 rebounds while Brooklyn Artis matched her with 14 points and 7 assists.

The halftime break didn't slow the Lady Saints down as Seward continued to come with an attack that Pratt had no answer for.  Seward stretched their lead to 20 with 14:30 to go after a drive and score by Rebekah Hatchard and back to back threes from Daniela Galindo made it a 62-40 ballgame with 12:15 to go.  The Lady Saints held Pratt scoreless over the next 5:48 and without a field goal for another 1:05 on top of that to balloon their lead all the way to 69-41 with under 5:00 remaining.  With reserves running the show for the final three minutes, the Lady Saints wrapped up the victory, winning 76-50 to pick up their first Jayhawk West road win of the year.

Both teams slowed down considerably in the second half as Seward finished the game shooting just 40% from the field while Pratt shot 36%.  Both teams struggled from the outside, combining to go just 7 for 39 from three point land, 5 for 23 for Seward and 2 of 16 for Pratt.  For the second straight game, both Seda and partner in crime Axelle Bernard registered double-doubles.  Seda finished with a game high 18 points as well as a game high 13 rebounds in the win while Bernard went for a career high 15 points and 11 rebounds.  Artis just missed a double-double of her own, scoring 16 points and dishing out a career  high 9 assists for the Lady Saints while Galindo and Hatchard pitched in 27 combined for the gals in green.

The win for Seward is their 47th straight over Pratt, a streak that dates back to the 1991 season.  The Lady Saints improve to 14-1 on the year and 2-0 in Jayhawk West action while Pratt falls back a step to 11-5 and 1-1 in league play.

The Lady Saints will have two days to prepare for a big battle with Cloud County Saturday night in the Greenhouse when they welcome the T-Birds in for Hall of Fame Night in Liberal.  The 2015 Saints Hall of Fame Class will be announced immediately following what the Lady Saints hope is another 2015 home win for them.  Free tickets for the 6:00 tip are available courtesy of the Bank of Beaver City at their Liberal location or at Hutch's.
