Brooks Dominant as Seward Hammers Cowgirls

Returning to the friendly confines of the Greenhouse for the first time in nearly a month, the #7 Seward County Lady Saints put on a show, blowing out Connors State 95-42 to improve to 14-1 on the season.

Seward got off to a hot start, taking a 12-3 and then 23-5 lead to open things up against Connors State.  The Lady Saints extended their lead to 33-8 midway through the half and took a 55-23 lead into the half.  Seward shot 65% from the field in the first half and had four different players with 8 or more points at the break.

Unfortunately for the Cowgirls, it was more of the same for the Lady Saints in the second half.  Three minutes into the half the Lady Saints had opened their lead to 64-25 and moments later it was Seward by 45 with a 72-27 lead.  The gals in green had no problem putting things in cruise control to finish the contest, winning going away 95-42.

Shanise Brooks led a potent Seward attack with a game high 21 points to go along with a career high 16 rebounds.  Alana Simon and Fabiana Monte each had 14 for Seward while Korina Chapman finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds.  Playing 16 minutes in her Seward County debut, freshman Rebekah Hatchard helped spark Seward off the bench with 11 points before taking a shot in the nose and having to leave the game late in the second half.

Seward improves to 14-1 while Connors State continues their forgettable early season slide, falling to an unfamiliar 3-8.  The Lady Saints wrap up their non-conference schedule on Saturday when they host Region VI for Northwest Kansas Tech at 6:00 in the Greenhouse while the Cowgirls continue their trip to Liberal with a 2:00 date against another 14-1 team in Iowa Western.
