The Saints defeat the Trojans in the first round of Regionals

DODGE CITY, Kan. -  Seward County Community College defeats Colby Community College 4-3 in the first round of the Region VI Tournament in Dodge City. The Saints battled back from a 3-1 deficit as they scored three runs in the top of the seventh. Madeline Pack hit a two-run RBI single in the fifth that scored Beth Denney and Macy Cesa-Spearman giving the Saints the victory. Seward County will face Hutchinson Community College tomorrow in the second round of Regionals.

The Saints got on the board in the first inning when Pack doubled to score Spearman who reached on a double earlier in the inning Colby scored one run in the bottom of the first inning to tie it at one run apiece. The Trojans took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. 

In the top of the fifth inning, Paris Brienesse hit a single to get the Saints' offense started. Denney hit a single to advance Brienesse to second base and Cesa-Spearman hit an RBI double to score her from second. Trailing 3-2 the Saints catcher Pack hit a two-run RBI double to score Denney and Cesa-Spearman to give the Saints a 4-3 advantage. 

Ireland Caro got the win for the Saints and the final put out as she allowed seven hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out one and walking one.

Seward County advances to the second round of the winner's bracket for the first time since the 2017-18 season. The Saints will face the Blue Dragons at noon in Dodge City, Kansas.
