Seward County falls in doubleheader to No. 6 Butler

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College fell to No. 6 Butler on Tuesday at French Family Field with a game one loss of 9-1, and a game two loss of 16-5. The Saints had a pink out at the field for breast cancer awareness and held a pre-game ceremony for two family members that are fighting breast cancer. The Saints wore custom black and pink jerseys in solidarity with breast cancer awareness. The Saints will look to bounce back tomorrow against No. 15 Hutchinson at 2 PM CT for sophomore appreciation.

GAME 1

Seward County fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 9-1 loss to Butler on Tuesday. The Grizzlies scored first with two runs in the first inning.

The Saints struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Butler, giving up nine runs.

The Grizzlies added one run in the second inning and scored two more in the fourth. The Saints fell behind 9-0 after Butler scored four more runs in the fifth. With just one run in the bottom of the fifth, the Saints fell 9-1 due to the eight-run rule after the fifth inning. 

Ireland Caro took the loss for Seward County as the right-hander allowed five hits and five runs over four innings, striking out two.

GAME 2

Seward County fell behind 7-0 after the first inning as Butler went on to win 16-5 in game two on Tuesday.

The Saints struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing the high-powered offense of the No. 6 Grizzlies.

Ireland Caro took the loss for Seward County as she lasted one inning, allowing seven hits and seven runs while walking one.

Seward County socked two home runs on the day as Macy Cesa-Spearman and Madeline Pack hit back-to-back solo home runs in the third inning.

Gabrielle SanchezAshanti Thompson, Pack, Paris Brienesse, Cesa-Spearman, and Shyanna Stopp each collected one hit for the Saints.

Seward County will host Hutchinson tomorrow Wednesday, April 27th for their final home game of the season.
