The Saints honor the Sophomores but falls to No. 15 Blue Dragons

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College hosted Hutchinson Community College on April 27th and fell 4-0 in game one and 7-6 in game two. This was the final home game of the season and the Saints recognized their sophomores in between the games on Wednesday. Seward County recognized Ashley Low, Mace Cesa-Spearman, Beth Denney, and Ireland Caro for their commitment to the Saints program as sophomores and leaders. The Saints will have their final series at Colby on Sunday, May 1st to end the regular season. 

GAME 1

Seward County fell behind early and couldn't recover in a 4-0 loss to Hutchinson in game one of the doubleheader. Hutchinson Community College took the lead with two runs in the top of the first inning and added one run in the sixth and seventh innings. 

The Saints freshman Gabrielle Sanchez provided the first hit of the game for the saints in the first inning.

Ireland Caro took the loss from the circle for the Saints as the right-hander went seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out one.

Sanchez led Seward Saints Softball 2022 with two hits in three at-bats.

GAME 2

The Saints fought back after falling down by four runs in the third inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 7-6 defeat to Hutchinson Community College on Wednesday. Seward County scored six runs in the failed comeback on a single by Tatum Winters in the fourth, a double by Beth Denney in the fourth, a double by Macy Cesa-Spearman in the sixth, and a groundout by Denney in the sixth.

The Blue Dragons made the final separation with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning.

Seward County knotted the game up at six in the bottom of the sixth inning as Denney grounded out, scoring one run.

Seward County scored four runs in the fourth inning as their offense in the inning came from a single by Winters and a double by Denney.

Molly Adams took the loss from the circle as she lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and six runs.

The Saints totaled nine hits with Madeline Pack and Denney with multiple hits for the Saints. Denney and Pack each managed two hits to lead the offense for Seward County

The Saints will take on the Trojans in the final series of the regular season and then will get ready for post-season play.
