Beavers Chop Seward Down to Size in Pratt

The Seward County Lady Saints suffered a disappointing sweep Friday afternoon in Pratt, as they were beaten twice by the sixth place Beavers, falling by scores of 6-3 and 10-9 to fall to 23-31 on the year.

The day got off to a good start for the Lady Saints who got 2nd inning RBI's from Callie Silvers-Harnly and Megan Olsen to jump ahead 2-0.

Seward extended their lead to 3-0 in the 3rd, getting a leadoff single from Jaidyn Mawhinney and a one out RBI double from Kristyna Garcia

A solo home run for Pratt in the 3rd got the Beavers on the board, but that is all they would get through four as it remained a 3-1 Seward lead to the 5th

The Lady Saints couldn't get anything going in the 5th and Pratt came alive in the bottom half of the frame.  The Beavers got a run off of a leadoff triple and a single behind it to make it 3-2 and after a botched bunt by the Lady Saints, Pratt smacked a three run home run to center to flip the script and take a 5-3 lead.  They kept going, getting another run in the inning and after five complete it was Pratt 6 and Seward 3.

Seward went ice cold offensively from there, going down in order in the 6th and managing just a walk in the 7th as Pratt shut the door and stunned them with a 6-3 victory.

Pratt outhit Seward 10-6 in the contest.  The Lady Saints were led by Garcia who finished 2 for 4 with Seward's only extra base hit of the game and an RBI.  Kelly Kearney took the loss in the circle, allowing 10 hits and six runs, all earned in six innings on the rubber.

SEWARD COUNTY/PRATT GAME ONE BOX SCORE

Pratt jumped ahead right off the bat in game two, scoring three times in the bottom half of the 1st to take a 3-0 lead on Seward.

Seward answered with a single tally in the 2nd to make it a 3-1 game but Pratt got two in the 3rd to stretch their lead to 5-1.

An RBI double from Hannah Lopez in the 4rd got Seward back to within three, but a three run Pratt 4th gave the Beavers some breathing room with an 8-2 lead.

Seward got back into the game with three in their next trip to the plate, getting an RBI single from Silvers-Harnly and a two run single from Yolanda Corral to trim the Pratt lead back to just three at 8-5.

The teams traded runs in their next at bats to make it a 9-6 game and that is where it remained to the 7th and final inning of play.

Down to their final out and trailing by three, the Lady Saints came alive, getting back to back singles to keep things going and a two run double from Brittany Corrales to get to within one at 9-8.  Garcia then kept the train moving with an RBI single of her own and just like that the Lady Saints were tied at 9 with the Beavers.

A crucial error by the Lady Saints allowed Pratt to get going in the bottom of the 7th and after back to back singles, the bases were loaded with nobody out.  A pop out on the infield gave the Lady Saints hope with their first out, but a single down the left field line drove home the game winning run as the Beavers walked off Seward 10-9.

The game featured 27 hits, 14 for Pratt and 13 for the Lady Saints.  Eight of nine Seward starters had hits in the loss including Lopez who was 3 for 4 with a run scored and a run driven home.  Mawhinney took the loss on the rubber for Seward, allowing 14 hits and 11 runs, eight earned to drop to 10-12 on the year.
