Former York College (NE) standout Tyrone Grady was named SCCC Men's Basketball Assistant Coach on August 1, 2019 and enters his fourth season with the Saints for the 2021-22 season. Grady spent the 2018-19 season as a volunteer assistant.

Grady comes to SCCC after serving as a full-time assistant at Wichita West High School Pioneers for more than seven years. He also had a high school coaching stop in Nebraska, and coached AAU teams in Wichita. In all, he noted, many players he has coached went on to play at all levels of college basketball.

A native of Newport, Ark., Grady played for York College from 1997 to 2001 under Brett McDaniel. In his career, he earned National Christian College Athletic Association All-America honors, Division 2 NAIA All-American Honors, three years All-Midland Athletic Conference honors, All Region Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, five-time Conference Player of the Week, and in his senior year led the conference in assists,  accumulating four career triple doubles. 

A career highlight was beating Oklahoma Christian University as a senior. During Grady’s senior year, he became the only player in York College and MCAC history to lead the league in two major categories, assists (6.3 per game) and steals (2.0 per game) and adding 15 points per game. He also led the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.6 to 1).

In the 2000-2001 season, Grady helped YC receive its first national recognition in receiving a first-ever Top 25 ranking at #18. He also led the team to its first 20-win season as a four-year school. Grady became the all-time leading scorer (1566), assist leader (635), and steals leader (219) at York College; all three records currently stand. He was inducted into York College’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

Grady’s career included many pro workouts and playing opportunities. Although he signed a pro contract to play in Germany at one point, he opted instead to move closer to his children in Arkansas. Grady has three sons, (Zabien, Kuazean, and Shaun-Carson). He is also proud to be a first-generation college student and graduate.
