The Saints win 85-72 over Trinidad in their home opener

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College's men's basketball team wins 85-72 over Trinidad State in the Greenhouse on Tuesday night. The Saints led at halftime 41-38 and separated themselves in the second half with their defense and three-point shooting. Seward County improves to 2-1 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday, November 13th against Western Nebraska Community College at 6 PM in the Greenhouse. 

To start the game Seward County took an 11-4 lead as Wilson Dubinsky led the way with 9 points all from behind the three-point line in the first 2:30 of the game. The Saints continued to separate themselves in the first half after a three by Victor Rosario gave Seward County an 18-9 lead of Trinidad State. The Trojans went on a 9-1 run to tie the game at 22 all with nine minutes left in the half. 

Trinidad took their largest lead of the game with five minutes left in the first half with a 35-28 advantage over Seward County. The Saints closed out the first half on a 13-3 run to take a 41-38 lead into halftime as Erik Pratt connected on a three-pointer as the buzzer sound went off for halftime. 

In the second half, the Saints claimed their largest lead of the game after a three by Pratt to lead 58-48 with 14 minutes left in-game. Seward County continued to grow their lead at 67-52 but the Trojans answered with an 8-0 run to get back within seven points 67-60. Seward County took a 78-65 lead after a three-pointer by Kevon Cooper with 4:40 left in the contest and the Saints looked to use the clock for their remaining possessions. After a couple of free-throws and defensive stops, the Saints held on to win 85-72.

Seward County was led by Erik Pratt with 19 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and four steals. Jaylin Henderson had 15 points, Wilson Dubinsky added 14 points, and Taye Donald had 12 points.
