Saints unable to catch the Trojans, lose 85-68

COLBY, Kan.- Seward County Community College men's basketball team unable to establish their offense and loses on the road 85-68 to Colby Community College. With the loss, the Saints fall to 15-12 on the season and remains in fifth place in the Jayhawk West with an 8-10 Conference record. Seward shot just 10% from three-point range and shot 44% from the field, the Trojans shot 48% from the field and shot 42% from three.

In the first half, the Trojans established an early 13-5 lead in the first five minutes of play and the Saints trailed for the remainder of the game. With a three by Rostyslav Novitskyi cut the lead down to just three points 16-13 with 11:51 left in the first half. Colby responded with a 15-2 run in five minutes to jump up to a 31-15 advantage. Seward turned the ball over 11 times in the first half that allowed Colby to get out in transition to score baskets while the Saints were short-handed. After the first 20 minutes, the Saints went into halftime down 44-29. 

In the second half, the Trojans came out and claimed their largest lead of the game 58-37 with 15:04 left. Seward did not make a three in the second half went 0-5 but shot 44% from the field in the half. Down by double-digits, the Saints turned to their bench for a spark and for the second game in a row they played all eleven available players. The Saints had just two turnovers in the second half but were unable to dig themselves out of the large deficit. The Trojans shot 48% from the field for the game and shot 42% from the three-point line to claim the victory. 

Colby had 6 players in double-digits and Alexandre Fanchini led all scorers with 19 points. Eddie Davis had 15 points, Demarcus Sharp added 15 points, Domonic Harvey Matt Mcfarlane and Javion May all had 11 points of their own.

Seward was paced by Branton McCrary with 16 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Roy Clarke added 14 points and five rebounds.

The Saints are back in action in the Greenhouse on Saturday to take on Barton Community College for Sophomore Night.
