Seward County falls in the first round of Regionals

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. - Seward County Community College baseball team concludes its season after falling in the first round to Cowley College. The Saints fell in game one on Wednesday 10-0, and fell in game two 15-4 on Thursday as the Tigers clinched the best of the three-game series 2-0. The Saints finished the season with a 14-43 overall record and finished with a 7-25 conference record.

GAME 1

The Saints fell behind 1-0 after the first inning and could not get back in front of the Tigers. Cowley scored four in the bottom of the third, and two in the fourth. The Saints were unable to get on the board as the Tigers scored three runs in the seventh to force the ten-run rule after the seventh. 

A single by Ranse RadtkeTristan Curless, and Jordan Crowder all provided a hit for the Saints.

Mason Martinez received the loss from the mound as he went six innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and striking out four.

GAME 2

In the first inning, Tristan Curless picked up an RBI  as the Saints struck first with Jase Schneider scoring from third. Seward County kept their bats hot in the top of the second with three runs in the second inning. Gannon Hardin hit a solo home run in the second inning as Jase Schneider, and Jaxson Gregg each picked up RBIs in the second as well. Seward County led 4-0 after the top of the third.

Cowley picked up their offense with a run in the bottom of the second inning. The Saints lost the lead after the Tigers put together four runs in the bottom of the third inning to lead 5-4. Seward County would not regain the lead for the rest of the contest. Cowley went on to score 15 unanswered runs to defeat the Saints 15-4.

Dylan Day took the loss from the mound as he allowed six hits and nine runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two.

Seward County Community College Saints Varsity smacked one home run on the day. Hardin went for the long ball in the second inning.

Seward County totaled eight hits in the game. Jase Schneider and Jaxson Gregg each racked up multiple hits for the Saints as Schneider went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the way.

The Saints concluded their season in the first-round series against the Tigers but fought against the No. 7 team in the nation.
