Saints Score Late in Both Games to Take Two From Beavers

The Seward County Saints picked up two much needed wins Sunday afternoon at a cold Stanion Field in Pratt as they plated a 7th inning run in game one to win 4-3 and a pair in the 9th in game two to take that 14-11 to finish off the sweep.

With temperatures hovering in the mid 30's, the Saints and Beavers got things going in their four game set Sunday afternoon in Pratt. Things were scoreless through two until Seward picked up an RBI single from Montana Newell and a bases loaded walk in the top half of the 3rd to take a 2-0 lead.

Saints starter Jared Biddy kept Pratt off the scoreboard through five and Seward added a run on an RBI single from Errett Edwards to stretch their lead to 3-0 as the teams went to the 6th

The Beavers finally broke through in the bottom of the 6th, exploding for three runs to quickly knot the game at 3.

The Saints answered right back as Cody Stineman stung a double to left to score Addison Kaasch who reached on a dropped third strike earlier in the inning to give Seward a 4-3 lead.

With the finish line in sight, Biddy stepped on the gas, striking out the first two batters he faced in the Pratt 7th before getting a groundout to finish things off in a 4-3 win for the Saints in game one.

The Saints had eight hits in the win, getting two from Newell and a hit and two RBI's from Stineman.  Biddy went the distance, picking up his second win of the season, allowing just four hits and three runs while striking out eight for Seward.

SEWARD COUNTY/PRATT GAME ONE BOX SCORE

The Saints jumped out to an early lead again in game two as Stineman and Brian Tims cracked RBI knocks in the top half of the 1st to put Seward ahead 2-0 after a half inning of action.

Seward opened their lead to 5-0 in the 2nd as a Beaver error and a passed ball allowed the Saints to plate three more and Seward blew things open as Tims launched a bases clearing double in the 4th to make it 8-0.

Pratt finally cracked the scoreboard with two in the 4th and then blew up for nine runs in a never ending 5th for the Saints as the Beavers turned an 8-2 deficit into an 11-8 lead in the blink of an eye.

Seward got back to within one on a two run single from Newell in the 6th and another Newell RBI knotted the score at 11 in the 7th.

Saints lefthander Ethan Earhart kept Pratt off balance out of the Seward bullpen and the Saints took advantage, taking a 12-11 lead in the 8th and adding two insurance runs in the 9th on another RBI hit from Tims to make it 14-11.

Pratt loaded the bases without a hit in the 9th and brought the game winning run to the plate, but Earhart worked out his own mess, getting a strikeout looking to finish the inning and the game in a 14-11 Seward County win.

The teams combined for 31 wins, 17 for Seward and 14 for the Beavers.  Tims had a career game at the plate, going 5 for 6 with six RBI's for the Saints while Newell was a perfect 4 for 4 with three driven home.  Earhart earned the win out of the pen, going five scoreless, allowing just three hits while striking out six for Seward.
