    Academic awards from the 2015-2016 school year continued to pour in for Seward County student-athletes on Thursday as 16 Saints and Lady Saints were honored with NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards as announced by the governing body.

    The 2015-2016 school year proved to be more than just a successful one on the court and in the fields for the Seward County student-athletes as Wednesday it was announced that 63 of 99 student-athletes made their way onto the Spring 2016 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

    Seward County ace Jakob Hernandez capped off his illustrious Saints career with the sports highest honor on Tuesday as the NJCAA announced that the southpaw was a 2016 3rd Team All-American.
  • Justin Graff-Rowe Signs at Central Missouri

    All-Conference Saints outfielder Justin Graff-Rowe signed on the dotted line on Saturday in the All-American room at Seward County, inking with NCAA Division II powerhouse Central Missouri for the final two years of his collegiate career.
  • Five Saints Garner All-Jayhawk Honors, Hernandez Pitcher of the Year

    Five Seward County Saints were named All-Jayhawk West on Tuesday as lefthander Jakob Hernandez was named both the Pitcher of the Year in the league and a 1st Team All-Jayhawk selection, while designated hitter Antonio Dorado was also a 1st Team pick and first baseman Logan Nethercot, shortstop Judah Sweat, and outfielder Justin Graff-Rowe were all 2nd Team selections.

    A pair of Seward County sophomores were honored by Region VI on Monday as ace Jakob Hernandez and designated hitter Antonio Dorado were each named to the 2016 NJCAA All-Region VI First Team as voted on by the 19 Jayhawk Conference coaches.

    Two more Seward County Saints Baseball players signed on the dotted line on Thursday in the All-American Room at SCCC as 1st Baseman Logan Nethercot inked with Lubbock Christian University and Catcher Easton Herring made his commitment to Newman University official.
  • Saints Season Comes to a Close in First Round

    Only twice in history have the Seward County Saints had to go on the road for the first round of the Region VI Tournament best of three series. The first two times they did so, they came out victorious. History did not repeat itself this weekend in Overland Park however as the Saints left the bases loaded in the 9th inning of a deciding game three against the Johnson County Cavaliers Sunday afternoon to fall 6-3 and see their 2016 season come to a disappointing end.
  • Saints/Cavs Trade Blowouts to Force Deciding Game Three

    In the marquee matchup of the Region VI Tournament first round, the #5 seed from the Jayhawk West, the Seward County Saints, made the long trip to Overland Park to take on the #4 seed from the Jayhawk East, the Johnson County Cavaliers. In game one the Saints gave their ace Jakob Hernandez plenty of support early on and the southpaw did the rest in a 13-5 Seward victory. In game two the Cavaliers took their frustrations out on Saints pitching, grabbing an early lead and scoring eight times against the Seward bullpen in the final two innings to run rule the Saints 15-5 in seven to set up a winner take all game three on Sunday morning.

    A trio of Seward County Saints signed on the dotted line together in the All-American Room at Seward County as Jakob Hernandez made his commitment to Texas-Arlington official, Yates Sutton inked at Washburn, and Antonio Dorado signed with Lindsey Wilson College.
  • Saints Slip in Final West Game, Headed on Road For Playoffs

    Throughout the course of a season, teams often lose games that they think they shouldn’t have and afterwards mutter the phrase ‘that one is going to come back to get us’. That was the case this season for the Seward County Saints and the latter part came true on the final day of the regular season as the Saints backed themselves into a corner, needing to win their final two games on the road at Dodge City to be at home for the playoffs and were only able to capture one, sending them on the longest trip possible for the first round of the Region VI Tournament next weekend as they are headed to Overland Park to take on Johnson County. Jared Biddy gave the Saints an outstanding effort in the opener Sunday, pitching a complete game shutout against the Conqs in a 3-0 win, but Seward couldn’t hold a late lead in the series finale, falling 6-5 to seal their playoff fate.
  • Hernandez Sharp, But Saints Split Again

    In what has been a season of inconsistencies, two things that have been consistent for the Seward County Saints showed themselves again on Saturday as the Saints took on the Dodge City Conquistadors to kick off their final Jayhawk West Conference series of the 2016 season. In the opener, ace Jakob Hernandez was solid as usual, not allowing a hit past the 2nd inning while striking out 13 in a 4-1 Seward County win. In game two though, the Saints fell short 6-5, splitting their fifth straight and seventh of their past nine conference doubleheaders to put themselves in a must sweep situation to secure home field advantage for the Region VI playoffs next week.
  • Saints Pound Out 18 Hits in Midweek Win

    The Seward County Saints pounded out 18 hits and shook off 16 walks on the mound Wednesday afternoon in Borger, Texas, coming away with a 12-9 non-conference win over Frank Phillips in a tune-up for a big weekend series against Dodge City.
  • Unlikely Hero Collects Jayhawk Pitcher of the Week Award

    One month ago, Seward County sophomore Nic Ricigliano was a third baseman buried on the Saints depth chart, getting an occasional at bat during a meaningless non-conference game. In an incredible change of fate that has seen Ricigliano make the move to the mound over the past few weeks, the Colorado native was named the Jayhawk Conference Pitcher of the Week in a release Wednesday afternoon after a masterful performance against Barton over the weekend.
  • Ricigliano Gem Salvages Split For Saints

    The Seward County Saints were forced to settle for yet another Jayhawk West Conference split against the Barton Cougars Sunday afternoon at Brent Gould Field in Liberal as the Saints couldn’t hold a 9-6 lead in the final inning of game three, eventually falling 11-9 before a gem on the mound from Nic Ricigliano gave Seward a 10-0 run rule win in the series finale to end the weekend 2-2 against the Cougars.
  • Big Innings Highlight Seward/Barton Day One Split

    Crooked numbers ruled Saturday afternoon as the Seward County Saints and Barton Cougars hooked it up in Jayhawk West Conference Baseball action. The Saints used a six run 3rd in game one to come away with an 11-1 win while Barton put up a nine spot in the 5th of game two to rout Seward 17-12 for the split.
  • Two Way Stars Steal the Show For Saints in Split

    The Seward County Saints and Butler Grizzlies split another Jayhawk West Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at McDonald Stadium in El Dorado with the Grizzlies coming from behind late in game three for a 4-3 walk off win and the Saints getting an unexpected complete game win on the mound from third baseman turned pitcher Nic Ricigliano and four RBI’s from game three pitcher Jared Biddy for a 7-1 victory in the series finale to split the four game series.
  • Hernandez Breaks Another Strikeout Record as Saints Split

    Seward County ace Jakob Hernandez wasn’t at his best Friday afternoon on the road in El Dorado as the Saints took on the Butler Grizzlies, but he was just good enough, tossing another complete game to earn a 7-5 win in game one for Seward, in the process breaking the all-time Seward County record with his 119th strikeout of the 2016 season. In game two, the game was tied midway through at 5-5, but the Saints bullpen again couldn’t hold the lead, allowing 10 Butler runs in the 6th and 7th innings to allow the Grizzlies to run rule them in game two to split the doubleheader.
  • Sticks Remain Strong For Saints in Midweek Win

    Coming off of a series in which they put up 49 runs in four games, the Seward County Saints continued to swing red hot bats on Wednesday in a non-conference contest in Borger, Texas, pounding out 15 hits and scoring 17 runs, knocking off Frank Phillips 17-11 to win their fifth straight game to improve to 23-18 on the year.
  • Saints Bomb T-Bird Pitching to Finish Off Sweep

    The Seward County Saints put up 28 more runs Sunday against the Cloud County Thunderbirds, sweeping away the Birds from Liberal with 9-5 and 19-9 wins to improve to 12-8 in Jayhawk West Conference play on the year.

    It took the Seward County Saints a little while to get going in both of their games Saturday against the Cloud County Thunderbirds at Brent Gould Field, but when they did step on the gas, they were unstoppable, scoring six runs in the final inning of game one to win 10-0 and eight in the final two of game two to come from behind for an 11-9 win to sweep their Jayhawk West twinbill from the T-Birds.

    Seward pitching was hit hard once again Wednesday, allowing 18 Clarendon hits in a 9-6 loss in the Lone Star State. The Saints fell behind 4-0 after one and never recovered, using a three run inning late to make things close as the Bulldogs went on to win 9-6.
  • Former Saint Kelby Tomlinson Makes Giants Opening Day Roster

    What was predicted all Spring Training was officially etched in stone on Tuesday as with their final cuts to their Opening Day, 25 Man Roster, the San Francisco Giants have picked former Seward County Saint Kelby Tomlinson to serve as a backup infielder with the club when they head to Milwaukee to open up the 2016 season.
  • Wild Weekend in Colby Ends in Split

    The Wild Wild West broke out in a Jayhawk West Conference series this weekend in Colby with four games between Seward County and Colby on the baseball diamond. None of the games were close, with each decided by nine or more runs, however, in the end, it was a 2-2 split for the teams, keeping the Saints at .500 in conference play on the year while the split was good enough to keep the Trojans in a 1st place tie at weekends end.

  • Hernandez & Keller Tame Raiders to Complete Saints Sweep

    Seward County aces 1A and 1B were on display once again Saturday afternoon at Brent Gould Field in Liberal as the Saints took on the Rose State Raiders in a non-conference doubleheader. Lefty Jakob Hernandez started things off with another unbelievable outing, following up his Jayhawk Conference record 19 strikeout performance last week with 17 more Saturday in an 8-2 Seward win. In game two is was righthander Adam Keller’s turn and all he did was spin a complete game three hitter to again give the Saints an 8-2 win, this one to sweep the series.
  • All-Around Effort Leads Saints to Series Opening Win

    The Seward County Saints picked up a 9-2 win in their non-conference series opener against the Rose State Raiders Friday afternoon at Brent Gould Field in Liberal. Seward got six solid innings from starter Jared Biddy, three scoreless innings of relief from lefty Pierce Edwards, and 14 hits from their offense to win their sixth straight game and creep back near the .500 mark on the year.
