Above the Net With... Jade Piper
Our second Above the Net feature of the 2015 season is from Jade Piper. Piper is a 6'0 freshman from Orange, Texas and has entitled her entry "Hey Ya'll".
I could not be more excited to play my first year of college volleyball as a Lady Saint. Coach B (Baziquetto-Allen) has done a great job of pushing us to become the best athletes we can be. We have come a long way since the first practice and our team chemistry is getting so much better. Having only three sophomores and being such a young team has created many challenges, but our team is improving and getting stronger every day. We finished our preseason scrimmages 4-0 at OPSU and at home in the Greenhouse. We then traveled to Roswell, New Mexico for our first tournament of the year. The experience was so much fun and provided a lot of bonding time for our team, including a trip to the alien museum there! Although we finished 1-3, we competed with tough teams and went five sets with teams that went to Nationals last year. This tournament allowed us to see that we have a lot of potential and also what we need to work on to win our conference and go to Nationals. We have our first conference game on Wednesday against Colby and I could not be more confident that the Lady Saints will take home the win. Leaving my family behind has been one of the biggest challenges for me, but this community has been so welcoming. I have a 24 year old sister, Alexa, and a 16 year old brother, Rayce that are supporting me from Texas. The people of Liberal are so friendly and go out of their way to help others. The three sophomores on this team have been so friendly and I look up to them as role models. I have created so many memories with my teammates and I cannot way to see where this season takes us. I am so thankful to be a volleyball player at Seward, and I look forward to seeing everyone at our first home game on September 10th in the Greenhouse!
