Gasparini/Anderson Named Jayhawk Player/Defensive Player of the Week

Following a perfect 3-0 week, a pair of Seward County Lady Saints have been given Jayhawk West awards this week as Carolina Gasparini was named the league's Co-Player of the Week and Kari Anderson was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

The reigning Jayhawk West Freshman of the Year Carolina Gasparini turned things on last week, averaging 3.09 kills and 4.36 digs per set for the Lady Saints in three Seward wins.  Wednesday against Garden City she had an 11 kill, 20 dig double-double in Seward's win over the Busters, while also registering a team best 4 aces in the match.  Friday against Lamar she was on fire, hammering down 9 kills while hitting .562 and also pulling up 10 digs in the Lady Saints sweep of the Lopes.  Saturday morning against Dodge City she posted another big match with 14 kills and 18 digs against the Conqs. Her Player of the Week award is the fourth of her Seward County career and first this season.

Anderson anchored the Lady Saints back line in three straight wins this week.  The sophomore libero averaged 5.46 digs per set for the Lady Saints, putting up 25 against Garden City, 16 against Lamar, and 19 against Dodge City.   It is Anderson's fifth Jayhawk West Defensive Player of the Week award and fourth this season.

The Lady Saints begin a long road trip tonight as they travel to Butler to take on a Grizzlies team who upset them earlier this season in the Greenhouse.  They will continue on after the match to Hillsboro, Missouri to take part in the Jefferson Tournament.
