No. 5 Lady Saints split matches at Pensacola Invitational

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 5 Seward County Community College women's team tennis split its matches on Day Two of the Pensacola Invitational. The Lady Saints lost to second-ranked ASA (Miami), 8-1, but beat No. 20 Harford, 7-2, on Sunday. Seward, which is 4-3, only had five players due to injury and had to default No.6 singles and No. 3 doubles matches.

 

ASA (MIAMI)

The lone victory for Seward against ASA (Miami) came when No. 1 singles Patricia Panta rallied from a one-set deficit to beat Molly Helgesson, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7.

In the other singles matches, Maria Aveiga lost to Tatiana Simova, 5-7 1-6, Alena Macharova was beaten by Irina Lapustina, 2-6, 6-4, 3-10, Sofia Belluco fell to Blanca Puig Caballero, 5-7, 1-6, and Eva Liu was defeated by Ji Youn Lee, 0-6, 0-6.

In doubles action, Panta and Aveiga lost to Michaela Krauskova and Simova, 1-8, and Macharova and Belluco was downed by Helgesson and Lapustina, 4-8.

 

HARFORD

The Lady Saints bounced back nicely with seven victories against Harford. The only two losses were due to injury default.

In singles competition, Seward won all its matches in straight sets. No. 1 Patricia Panta defeated Maria Rey, 6-0, 6-2, No. 2 Maria Aveiga won over Noemi Aguirre, 6-2, 6-4, No. 3 Alena Macharova beat Paula Martinez, 6-1, 6-0, No. 4 Sofia Belluco knocked off Sofia Samra, 6-0, 6-1, and No. 5 Eva Liu beat Faith Hill, 6-1 6-0.

In doubles action, Panta and Aveiga beat Rey and Aguirre, 8-2, and Macharova and Belluco blanked Martinez and Samra, 8-0.
