Fifth-ranked Lady Saints suffers loss to No. 1 Tyler JC

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas – The Seward County Community College women's tennis team is ranked fifth in the nation, but was no match for No. 1 Tyler Junior College, losing 9-0, on Friday. The Lady Saints suffered their first team loss of the season, falling to 3-1.

In singles, No. 1 Patricia Panta lost to Maria Genovese, 1-6, 3-6, No. 2 Maria Aveiga fell to Summer Yardley, 1-6, 0-6, No. 3 Alena Macharova was dropped by Lucie Devier 0-6, 1-6, No. 4 Sofia Belluco was defeated by Helena Jansen, 0-6, 1-6 and No. 6 Eva Liu fell to Veronica Gallardo, 3-6, 4-6. No. 5 Alisa Handrugan defaulted in her match due to injury.

Seward fared no better in doubles. The top team of Panta and Aveiga fell to   Genovese and Devier, 4-8, Macharova and Belluco lost to Yardley and Jansen, 0-8, and Handrugan and Liu were knocked off by Gallardo and Khamula, 3-8.

The Lady Saints will next play in the Pensacola Invitational from March 9 – 11.
