Another All Seward Final at NMMI Invitational

Another All Seward Final at NMMI Invitational

For the third time in four outs this fall, it will be yet another all Seward County final in Flight A singles on Saturday as Lady Saint sophomores Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos cruised to the finals Friday at the New Mexico Military Invitational in Roswell, New Mexico.

Paula Lopez didn't even have to take the court in her Flight A first round match as she picked up a forfeit win while Paula Coyos breezed to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Thea Minor of New Mexico Military to advance to the second round.  In the semis Lopez blew away Sommer Champion of Collin County 6-0, 6-1 while Coyos earned a quick 6-0 win in the first, but had to battle to a 6-4 win over Samulle Bull of Collin to see them both advance to the title match on Saturday.

In Flight B both Jackie Arnold and Xochiti Gonzalez lost their first round matches, but Arnold rebounded with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Amanda Hawkins of New Mexico Military to advance to the 5th place match Saturday.

The Lady Saints went winless in two Flight C matches and came up short in their only doubles match of the day.

Seward finishes day one of the tournament 4-6 which drops their fall 2014 team record to 31-31 overall.

Lopez and Coyos will play for the Flight A singles title Saturday while Arnold battles for 5th in Flight B and a pair of Lady Saint doubles teams remain alive in that draw.
