TOBY WYNN completed his 13th year as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Seward County in 2017-18. In 13 years as Head Coach, Wynn has directed the Lady Saints basketball program to a 349-84 overall record. Wynn’s efforts and achievements as Head Coach have kept the storied SCCC women’s basketball program in the spotlight of NJCAA D-I Women’s Basketball.  He is also the President of the NJCAA Women's Basketball Coaches Association.  

Despite losing three NCAA Division I signees from 2016-17, Wynn turned in an improbable season for the Lady Saints in 2017-18, leading a young Seward squad to a 31-4 finish en route to a top 5 finish at the NJCAA National Tournament.  After two early season loses, Wynn led the Lady Saints to 17 straight double-digit victories and captured the Jayhawk Conference title for the second straight year and first outright since 2010.  The remarkable season wasn't over yet, however, with the Lady Saints going to Witchita to capture their first Region VI Tournament Championship since 2007, defeating Independence in the Championship game.

2016-17 saw Wynn lead the Lady Saints to a 32-3 record that included a top 5 finish at the NJCAA National Tournament. The 32 wins marks the 25th straight season that the Lady Saints programs topped the 20 win mark. Seward earned a share of the in the Jayhawk Conference title with Hutchinson and reached the Region VI Tournament Championship, before falling in the title game.

In 2015-16 Wynn led a young Lady Saints squad to a 25-8 season that included nearly a season long stay in the NJCAA Top 25. Seward finished 2nd in the 14 team Jayhawk Conference and reached the Region VI Tournament Championship game, falling one win short of a second consecutive trip to the NJCAA National Tournament.  The Lady Saints pulled off three wins against Top 25 ranked teams in 2015-2016 including a pair against rival Hutchinson, marking the first time any team had beaten the Dragons twice in a season since the 2008 campaign.  

Against all odds, Wynn turned 2014-2015 into a magical season for the Lady Saints.  Despite losing two of five starters midway through the season, Wynn regrouped his squad to go 28-6 while making it all the way to the Sweet 16 at the NJCAA National Tournament.  The Lady Saints finished 13-3 in Jayhawk West play, good for 2nd place and earned the schools first at-large bid to the Big Dance.  Seward finished the season ranked #9 in the country and held a top 10 ranking in all 12 regular season polls of the 2014-2015 season.  At seasons end, four Lady Saints signed at NCAA Division I schools (Tamara Seda- UTEP, Kyndal Davis-Wyoming, Brooklyn Artis- Indiana State, Rebekah Hatchard-Montana State).  

The Lady Saints had another big season in 2013-2014, putting together a 26-6 overall record and a 10-4 mark in Jayhawk West play.  Seward began the year 12-0 and then moved to 17-1 after their first loss, climbing all the way up the NJCAA National polls to #7.  Seward finished 2nd in the Jayhawk West standings and were upset in the quarterfinal round of the Region VI Tournament by Barton.  The Lady Saints finished the season ranked in the top 20 of the NJCAA polls in all 12 weeks.  

It was yet another 20 win campaign for the Lady Saints under Wynn's direction in 2012-2013.  Seward finished 20-11 overall and 10-6 in Jayhawk West action to notch their 21st straight 20 win season.  The Lady Saints battled through a rash of injuries last season including the loss of a pair of projected sophomore starters in Anete Kirsteine and Payton Fleming, a blow of 17 points and 8 rebounds per game that the two put up as freshman.  Despite the losses, Wynn guided Seward to a 4th place finish in the Jayhawk West and a run to the Region VI Tournament Quarterfinals before their season was cut short by eventual Region Champs Hutchinson in the Sports Arena.  Wynn coached another pair of All-Americans in 2012-2013 as Ricquia Jones and Madison McLain both collected WBCA Honorable Mention All-American accolades.

Under Wynn's guidance the Lady Saints reached the 20 win mark in 2011-2012, marking the 20th straight season that Seward County has reached the plateau.  The Lady Saints went 23-8 and 11-5 in Jayhawk West play, good for 2nd place and had two players named WBCA All-Americans (Ashlynn Knoll & Anete Kirsteine).

In 2010-2011 Wynn led Seward to their 19th straight 20 win season as his squad ended the season with a 21-11 overall record.  The Lady Saints finished 4th in conference play with a 10-6 record but found their way to the Region VI Tournament quarterfinals where they lost a close game to Cowley to end their year.  Wynn coached a pair of WBCA All-American's in 2010-2011 as Mariah Lee and Ashlynn Knoll were both given the honor.

Wynn has emerged as one of the top young coaches in junior college women’s basketball. In the summer of 2011 the Lady Saints head man was asked to participate with Team USA Women's Basketball during their 18-U National Team tryout camp. During the camp he worked with such players as Brittney Boyd, Chiney Ogwuimike, and Meighan Simmons who ended up going on to play at California, Stanford, and Tennessee respectively.

In 2009-2010, Wynn pushed the Lady Saints to the Jayhawk West Championship with a 15-1 record and finished the season 31-3, losing in the Region VI Championship Game for the second straight season.  In 2008-09, Wynn's Lady Saints fell just 2 points short of going to the NJCAA National Tournament and in 2007-08, Wynn’s Lady Saints were the #1 ranked team in the country to open the year and finished 13-3 in conference play, good for 2nd place in the always tough Jayhawk Conference. In 2006-07, the Lady Saints went to the NJCAA National Tournament and finished in 3rd Place with a 36-2 overall record. Wynn captured his first Head Coaching conference championship (15-1 Jayhawk West Conference record) and his first Region VI Tournament Championship.

Wynn's Seward County club posted wins over 5 NJCAA Top 20 teams in 09-10 including wins over 3 teams ranked inside the nations top 11.  He watched as Rachel Barnes wrapped up one of the best careers in school history after clipping the 1,000 point marker in a game late in the season before putting on a dominating show in the Region VI Tournament semifinals where she would score a school record 41 points and grab 16 rebounds to push Seward to the championship game.  Barnes was later named the Jayhawk West Conference MVP, the Region VI MVP, as well as a WBCA All-American and a 1st Team NJCAA All-American before signing with the Big East's Providence College.

With a relatively young team in 2008-09, Wynn led the Lady Saints to a 3rd place finish in the Jayhawk West Conference with a 13-3 mark.  However, his gals in green would win their final seven regular season conference games and their first three egion VI Tournament games to reach the tournament championship game against rival Hutchinson in Koch Arena in Wichita.  After a dreadful 1st half, Wynn would guide his Lady Saints back into the game with a fury of defensive stops and hard earned buckets on the other end to have them in the game late.  Unfortunatly the Lady Saints would fall on the last posession of the game to cut their season short at 28-6, one game short of the National Tournament.

In 2007-08, Wynn had three sophomores and one freshman who signed with NCAA Division I or Division II programs. Wynn has helped produce players who have transferred into many premier NCAA Division I conferences in America including, the Big 12, Big East, Conference-USA, Pac- 10, Missouri Valley, Mountain West, Mid-Continent, and the Big West Conference.

Wynn’s 2006-07 team made plenty of headlines, especially after remaining undefeated until the middle of February with a perfect 24-0 record. The Lady Saints were one of only two teams in the nation to remain undefeated that long into the regular season. For the second straight season Wynn guided the Lady Saints to a perfect non-conference record (28-0). The Seward County women’s basketball program carried a 43 game non-conference winning streak into the 2007-08 season and extended it to 45 with two early season victories. Dating back to when Wynn was an assistant coach for the Lady Saints (2004-05), he is now 113-17 in non-conference games with SCCC.

In 2006-07, Wynn guided the Seward County women’s basketball program to their second most wins in school history (36). Wynn’s accomplishments as Head Coach was recognized with him being named Jayhawk West Conference Coach of the Year, NJCAA District F Coach of the Year, Kansas Basketball Coaches Association JUCO Women’s Coach of the Year and he was a finalist for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Region 5 Coach of the Year award.

Seward County entered the NJCAA all-time record books in 2006-07 under Wynn, when they held Hutchinson Community College to 24 points on February 7, 2007. The Lady Saints held the Lady Blue Dragons to the fewest points ever in a NJCAA game. Seward County defeated Hutchinson 37-24, also placing the two teams in the NJCAA record books for the fewest points ever scored in a single-game by two teams.

Wynn guided Seward County to what many would consider a story book season in 2006-07, considering the Lady Saints played their final 18 games of the season with just seven players on their active roster. Despite losing two key sophomores to season-ending knee injuries, Seward County finished the season winning 16-of-18 games to win the Jayhawk West Conference championship, NJCAA Region VI Tournament and finishing 3rd at the NJCAA National Tournament.

The Lady Saints as a team captured 24 conference, regional and national awards in 2006-07, including two players earning All-American status. Freshman Tegan Cunningham racked up 12 individual honors including NJCAA First Team All-American and WBCA First Team All-American. Fellow freshman Chontaye Walter was also a standout in her collegiate debut season picking up three individual honors, including being named a WBCA Honorable Mention All-American.

In Wynn’s 11 seasons as Head Coach, Seward County has been ranked 85 weeks in the NJCAA Top 25 poll, with 48 rankings inside the Top 10. Last season the Lady Saints added to that number, finding themselves inside the top 25 in 11 of 13 polls.  In 2014-2015 Seward was ranked in the top 10 of all 12 national polls.  In 2012-2013 the Lady Saints started the season unranked but quickly found themselves inside the top 15 before cresting at #6 midseason.  In 2010 Seward opened the year ranked #9 before climbing to #6 during the second rankings.  In 2007-08, Wynn’s Lady Saints were ranked #1 in the pre-season NJCAA poll after their 3rd place national finish in 2007. In 2006-07, Seward County spent six weeks at #3 and in the final poll on Feb. 3, the Lady Saints jumped up to #2 in the NJCAA.

Wynn is the fastest Head Coach in Seward County history to win 61 games (70 games). He won his 50th game as a head coach on Feb. 17 in an 84-55 win at Butler. Wynn has now posted nine straight seasons with at least 10 victories in the Jayhawk West Conference. The Lady Saints’ 15 conference victories in 06-07 and 09-10, ties the mark for most conference wins in the Jayhawk West since 2001-02. Wynn’s career Jayhawk West Conference record is 134-43.

Wynn’s program once again succeeded in the classroom this season, earning their 6th NJCAA National Academic Championship as the top team GPA in the country . In 2008 the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association also ranked the Lady Saints 1st in the nation in their Academic Team Honor Roll.

Wynn’s WBCA “Think Pink” night in 2011, raised $1,055 for cancer research as his Lady Saints were decked out in pink head-bands, wrist-bands, socks, shoe laces, and warm-up tops.

In his coaching tenure at SCCC, Wynn has coached 39 Jayhawk West All-Conference selections (18 First Team), 25 NJCAA All-Region VI performers, 23 NJCAA Region VI All-Tournament Team selections, 12 NJCAA Player of the Week selections, 15 NJCAA or WBCA All-Americans, 4 NJCAA All-Tournament Team selections, 4 NJCAA Region VI Most Valuable Players, 3 NJCAA Region VI Tournament Most Valuable Players, 5 Jayhawk West Conference Most Valuable Player, and 2 Jayhawk West Conference Freshman of the Year.

Before taking over as Head Coach, Wynn served as the Assistant Coach for the Lady Saints in 2004-2005 under former Lady Saints Head Coach, Jim Littell. In his one season as assistant coach, the Lady Saints finished 5th at the NJCAA National Tournament and were Region VI Tournament and Jayhawk West Conference champions with a 35-3 overall record and a 14-2 record in the Jayhawk West Conference.

Before coaching at Seward County , Wynn was the Head Girl’s Basketball Coach at Liberal High School and coached Boy’s and Girl’s Basketball at Balko ( Okla. ) H.S. Wynn attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University , in Alva , Okla. , where he played basketball for one season. Wynn then attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University , in Stillwater , Okla. , where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Education.
