No. 12 Lady Saints defeats Garden City, 102-72

GARDEN CITY, Kan. -- The No. 12 Seward County Community College women's basketball defeated Garden City 102-72 with the help of four Lady Saints in double-digits. The Lady Saints are now 19-4 overall and 11-1 in conference play and remain tied in the first place of the Jayhawk West with Hutchinson Community College.

After the first quarter, both teams shot the ball over 50% from behind the three-point line and it was just a one-possession game with the Lady Saints ahead 20-18. The second quarter is when the Seward took control of the game and jumped up to 51-33 lead after a pair of free-throws by Kamry Perez. At halftime, the Lady Saints led 52-37 and outscored the Broncbuster 32-19 in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, the Lady Saints turned the ball over frequently and Garden City took advantage of those turnovers to create transition baskets as the Broncbusters looked to climb back into the game. With 3:57 left in the third quarter, the Lady Saints took a 27 point lead at 73-46 after two made free throws by Destiny Alston. After that the Broncbusters responded with a 14-5 run in part to the Lady Saints turnovers, to cut the lead down to 78-60. For the game, Garden City scored 24 points off of the Lady Saints 26 total turnovers. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Saints outscored the Broncbusters 24-12 to earn the road victory and shot 58% from the field in the game.

Garden City was led by Dasja Ross with 18 points and two assists. Alyssa Boyce added 14 points, Ariyanna Hall had 13 points and Donetria McGee had 12 points off of the bench.

The Lady Saints were led by Karolina Szydlowska with her seventh double-double of the season as she had 18 points and 10 rebounds, both game highs. Vanda Cuamba had 16 points, Tianna Johnson added 14 points and Leilani Augmon had 13 points of her own.

Seward will be in action at Pratt Community College this Saturday at 5:30 PM.
