For the sixth consecutive year, the Seward County athletic department has seen an increase in the number of student-athletes receiving the NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award, as 34 Saints and Lady Saints qualified for the 2017-18 school year, topping last years record of 28.

Seward County Community College Director of Athletics Roy Allen announced today that Austin Mefford will be the eighth head coach for the Lady Saints basketball program.  An introductory press conference will be held Monday, May 7 at 10:00 a.m. in the All-American Room on the Seward County campus.

The postseason awards continue to pour in for the Lady Saints basketball team after finishing a season that saw a Jayhawk and Region VI Championship en route to a top five finish at the NJCAA National Tournament.  Two-Time All-Conference and All-Region VI sophomore Mollie Mounsey can now add two-time First-Team All-American to her resume after being named to the prestigious list on Wednesday afternoon.

For the second straight year the Seward County women’s basketball team’s season ended at the hands of Gulf Coast State in the Quarterfinals of the NJCAA National Tournament.  The Commodores defeated the Lady Saints 79-65 inside the Rip Griffin Center Thursday night.

A day after winning the Region VI Tournament, two Seward County women's basketball players have won league honors as Mollie Mounsey and Silvia Veloso have been named to the 1st Team All-Conference for the Jayhawk Conference. Mounsey was also named the Most Valuable Player for the conference.

Third time is the charm for the Lady Saints. After reaching the Region VI Finals the previous two years, the Seward County women’s basketball team captured the championship Wednesday night, beating the Independence Pirates 59-47. Seward also punched their ticket to Lubbock, Texas for the NJCAA National Tournament with the win.

It was another day in the office the Seward County Lady Saints as they blew past the Coffeyville Red Ravens in the quarterfinals of the Region VI Tournament, 103-64.  Five Lady Saints came away in double-figures, led by Vilma Covane’s career-high 20 points.

The No. 10 Seward County women’s basketball team ended the regular season with a blowout win against rival Garden City, 75-53 in Garden City.  In the win, Mollie Mounsey tied Seward County Hall of Famer Kim Ortega for third place on the all-time scoring list.

It was sophomore night in the Greenhouse Saturday night, and what better way to cap off their careers with Seward County than by clinching the Jayhawk Conference Championship outright in front of their home crowd, as the No. 10 Lady Saints knocked off Dodge City 98-39.
