Lady Saints Stay Hot Behind Seda's 23 & 18

Lady Saints Stay Hot Behind Seda's 23 & 18

After struggling to get going in her much anticipated collegiate debut on Friday night, Seward County redshirt freshman Tamara Seda put the Lady Saints on her back Saturday night in the Greenhouse, going for 23 points and 18 rebounds to lead the 20th ranked Lady Saints past Murray State 69-49 to improve to 2-0 on the early season.

Both teams had trouble getting going early on in the first half as they were at a 7-7 standstill seven minutes into the contest.  A wing three by Daniela Galindo broke the tie to give Seward a 10-7 lead and the Lady Saints went on to score the next seven points to take a 17-7 lead.  Seward continued to pile on the pressure against the Lady Aggies, building their lead to 25-10 on a trio of threes from Rebekah Hatchard before the first half media timeout.  The Lady Saints went on top by 20 on a sweet dish from Brianna Scott to Axelle Bernard and had a 22 point lead before a 9-2 Murray State run before the half made it a 38-23 game at the break.  Seward held Murray State to just 25% shooting in the first half and outrebounded the Lady Aggies 31-19 in the period.  Tamara Seda led the Lady Saints with a first half double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Murray State hung around and cut into the Lady Saints lead in the first seven minutes of the second half and threatened to get within single digits after a three from Trinity Davis with 13:00 to go in the game.  With their lead down to 46-36, the Lady Saints scored five straight on a three by Kyndal Davis and a strong finish on the inside by Seda to put them back up by 15 with 10:58 to go.  Seda took over from there, dominating the paint on both ends of the floor as Seward stretched their lead out to 21 late before going on to win 69-49.

The Lady Saints held Murray State to just 24% shooting on the night, a night after the Lady Aggies torched Garden City for 83 on Friday.  Seward didn't blister the nets by any means, shooting just 29% in the second half and 34% in the game, but Seward managed 23 more shots than Murray in the win thanks to a 67-46 advantage on the glass which included 27 offensive boards.  Seda finished a huge game with 23 points and 18 rebounds in the Seward win while Davis chalked up her second straight double-double with 12 points and 10 boards while Hatchard and Scott combined for 25 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Saints improve to 2-0 on the year and will take their #20 ranking on the road this week when they travel to Weatherford, Texas on Thursday to play their first contest out of the friendly confines of the Greenhouse.
