Lady Saints lose to Hutchinson

LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County Community College softball team dropped a doubleheader against Hutchinson Community College, 7-0 and 10-2, on Sunday at French Family Field. The Lady Saints are 4-6 in the Jayhawk West and 9-22 overall.

The Lady Saints play at Northwest Tech on Wednesday.

 

GAME TWO

Seward scratched out 11 hits, but could not capitalize on opportunities as Hutchinson pulled away late in the game two loss.

The Blue Dragons started the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning and the Lady Saints tied it up with a run in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single by Emily Mojica.

The score would stay that way until Hutchinson took a 2-1 lead with a run in the fourth inning. The Blue Dragons iced the game with three runs in the fifth, a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh.

Seward's only other run came on Madeline Owen's RBI single in the fifth.

Down 6-2, the Lady Saints had a chance to get back into the game in the sixth inning, but failed to get the big hit after loading the bases with only one out.  

Miranda Nester went 4-for-4 and Mojica had a pair of hits for the Lady Saints.

Alyssah Pontoja took the loss, giving up 10 runs, seven earned, on 17 hits, striking out none and walking one over seven innings.

 

GAME ONE

Seward forfeited the first game and defaulted by a score, 7-0.
