PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Seward County softball team (17-13) picked up two more wins on Wednesday, sweeping South Mountain in Phoenix. The Lady Saints took game on 6-1 before mercy ruling South Mountain in game two 10-2 to win in five innings.
GAME ONE RECAP
Seward Saints took game one of the double header 6-1. Monique Ashley got the win for Seward Saints. She went seven innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out 11 and walking one.
The Lady Saints got things moving in the first inning, when Leena Mortensen singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Megan Jesionowski took the loss for South Mountain. She allowed eight hits and six runs over three innings, striking out two.
Seward Saints tallied 11 hits on the day. Mortensen, Sydney Epp, Sage Harrison, and Jullian Atteberry each had multiple hits for Seward Saints. Atteberry, Harrison, Epp, and Mortensen each collected two hits to lead Seward Saints.
GAME TWO RECAP
Jordan Cordrey was brilliant on the mound in game two, as she threw a no-hitter to lead Seward past South Mountain 10-2.
The Lady Saints secured the victory thanks to six runs in the third inning. Seward's big bats in the inning were led by singles by Sydney Epp and Kaitlin Ammermann, a walk by Madeline Owen, a groundout by Corrina Porras, and a double by Sage Harrison.
Seward got things started in the first inning when Leena Mortensen homered on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.
The Saints tallied six runs in the third inning. Harrison, Owen, Epp, Porras, and Ammermann each had RBIs in the frame.
Cordrey was the winning pitcher for Seward Saints. She allowed zero hits and two runs over five innings, striking out two.
Nephtali Ruiz took the loss for South Mountain. She lasted two innings, allowing five hits and seven runs while striking out two.
Seward hit two home runs on the day. Jullian Atteberry had a homer in the fifth inning. Mortensen had a dinger in the first inning.
The Lady Saints racked up ten hits in the game. Atteberry, Mortensen, and Ammermann each racked up multiple hits for Seward Saints. Atteberry went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Seward Saints in hits.
