Seward Swept by Yavapai

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - The Seward County softball team (15-13) was swept from two mercy rules games on Tuesday, losing to Yavapai College 8-0 in game one before losing 14-1 in game two.

GAME ONE RECAP

Seward fell behind early and could not come back in an 8-0 loss to Yavapai in game one. Yavapai took the lead on a groundout in the first inning.

The Lady Saints struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Yavapai, giving up eight runs.

Yavapai got things moving in the first inning, when Makayla Guerra grounded out, scoring one run.

Jaya Allen earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for Yavapai College. She went five innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out 13 and walking one.

Jordan Cordrey took the loss for Seward Saints. She allowed 12 hits and eight runs over four innings, walking one.

Yavapai mashed three home runs on the day. Brianna Griffiths went for the long ball in the fourth inning. Jaydee Boursaw went yard in the third inning. Makea-Al Kaluau had a dinger in the fourth inning.

Yavapai tallied 12 hits on the day. Neenah Pangilinan, Griffiths, and Kaluau all collected multiple hits for Yavapai College. Pangilinan went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Yavapai College in hits. Yavapai College was sure-handed and did not commit a single error. Kylie Brown made the most plays with 13.

No Lady Saint earned a hit in the game and Kaitlin Ammermann was the lone Seward player to reach base from a walk.

GAME TWO RECAP

An 11 run first inning was too much for the Lady Saints to overcome as Seward fell in game two 14-1. Yavapai scored on a walk by Makea-Al Kaluau, a grand slam by Meredith Clark, a grand slam by Neenah Pangilinan, and a home run by Jaydee Boursaw in the first inning.

Yavapai College opened up scoring in the first inning. Kaluau drew a walk, scoring one run.

Kiana Spencer got the win for Yavapai College. She allowed four hits and one run over five innings, striking out four and walking zero.

Lexi Manyik took the loss for Seward Saints. She went one-third of an inning, allowing nine runs on four hits.

Yavapai  hit five home runs on the day. Pangilinan had a dinger in the first inning. Boursaw had a long ball in the first and third innings. Clark put one out in the first inning. Mariah Kalmaras had a four bagger in the second inning.

Sage Harrison, Madeline Owen, Sydney Epp, and Corrina Porras each managed one hit to lead Seward Saints. Seward Saints did not commit a single error in the field. Manyik had the most chances in the field with four.

Yavapai College racked up 11 hits. Boursaw and Pangilinan each managed multiple hits for Yavapai College. Boursaw went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Yavapai College in hits. Yavapai College was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Pangilinan made the most plays with three.
