Lady Saints Undefeated In Conference 6-0 After Taking Two From Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. – The Seward County softball team (13-11, 6-0) came away with two wins on Friday defeating the Dodge City Conquistadors 7-0 in game one of their doubleheader before taking game two 12-4.

GAME ONE RECAP

With Monique Ashley on the mound for the Seward Lady Saints for the first game, she allowed zero runs and is now 11-3 on the season with 117 strikeouts.

In the second inning, Seward Saints got their offense started when Paige St. Pierre singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring Miranda Nester and advancing Corrina Porras. The ladies leave three on base for the rest of that inning. At the bottom of the second, Ashley goes three up three down.

Top of the third and Leena Mortensen advances to second on passed ball, in play. Sydney Epp then doubles on a fly ball to left field and Mortensen scores. Lady Saints now up 2-0 heading to the bottom of the third. Ashley hits first batter Caley Best. Best then caught stealing second by shortstop Jullian Atteberry throw by catcher Sage Harrison. Ashley then strikes out the next two batters.

Top of the fourth and Seward gets another run off of a pass ball thrown by Brittany Kendall. For Dodge City, single by Samantha Montano in the fourth inning was a positive for Dodge City but no run would be scored. Top of the fifth and Nester will single scoring another run for Seward and in the bottom of the fifth Ashley goes three up three down again.

Seward Saints scored three runs in the sixth inning. Harrison and Epp all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning making it 7-0 where the saints hold the lead for the rest of the game and 7-0 turns into the final score.

GAME TWO RECAP

Jordan Cordrey started off on the mound for the Lady Saints receiving the win but was relieved by Ashley in the end of the bottom of the fifth.

Dodge City is the first to score in the bottom of the first inning, but in the top of the second the Lady Saints answer back scoring four runs off of Pierre with a ground out and , Atteberry and Kaitlin Ammermann both with doubles.

Top of the third and Dodge tries to close the gap with three more runs scored making it a tied game 4-4. Bottom of the third and Harrison first up hit a homerun out to left field and makes it a 5-4 game. Lady Saints score again the the fourth off of Ammermann.

Seward County doesn't score again until the top of the sixth were the Lady Saints bats are on fire and the runs come pouring in. Atteberry singles and scores Porras, Harrison singles and scores Atteberry, Epp singles to centerfield and Madeline Owen scores and Harrison scores on the throw, and finally Nester singles and scores Mortensen making the score 11-4 at the end of the inning.

Top of the seventh and on more run to be scored and it is off of a solo home run hit by Atteberry making it the final score of 12-4.

The Lady Saints are still undefeated in conference play 6-0 and will be traveling to Arizona over spring break. That  week they will play Dawson Community College on Monday, March 12th, Yavapai College Tuesday, March 13th, South Mountain Community College Wednesday, March 14th, and Scottsdale Community College Friday, March 16th.

Next conference game will be Wednesday March 21st against Garden City at home!
