Mortensen Signs With Detroit Mercy

A second Lady Saint softball player signed on with a Division I school as Leena Mortensen signed with the University of Detroit Mercy on Monday. Mortensen joins Jullian Atteberry as the two Lady Saints who will continue their career in the Division I level.

The Seward County battery responsible for the most wins in Lady Saints history are now going their separate ways after signing with four year schools.  Pitcher Monique Ashley has signed with NAIA Bellevue University, while catcher Sage Harrison has signed with Division II Francis marion University.

For the sixth consecutive year, the Seward County athletic department has seen an increase in the number of student-athletes receiving the NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award, as 34 Saints and Lady Saints qualified for the 2017-18 school year, topping last years record of 28.

The 2018 Seward County softball season ended on Sunday, as the Lady Saints began and ended the day with losses to Butler in the Region VI Tournament.  After losing to Butler 9-1 in the semifinals, Seward took down Colby 4-3 for a rematch against the Grizzlies in the Championship Game but lost 18-0. It marks back-to-back Region VI Championship game appearances for the Lady Saints.

The Seward County softball team took all they could handle from the Dodge City Conquistadors, needing a late inning surge to prevent a Dodge City comeback, beating the Conqs 6-4 in the first round of the Region VI Tournament.

The Seward County softball team (35-19, 22-6) finished their regular season on Monday, splitting with the Colby Trojans in a double header.  Colby took game one 2-0 before the Lady Saints won in comeback fashion in game two, 8-7.

It was a tough day at the ball park for the Seward County softball team (34-18, 21-15) getting swept by the Butler Grizzlies.  The Lady Saints were no hit in game one 9-0 before losing on a walk off in game two 4-3.

Chalk up two more wins for the Seward County softball team (34-16, 21-3), defeating conference foe Barton in a doubleheader 6-3 in game one before dropping the Cougars 17-6 in game two.  On sophomore night, Oregon slugger Sage Harrison tied the single season home run record, blasting two pitches over the wall in game two, now sitting at 19 on the season. She is now just three shy of the career home run record of 35.

The Seward County softball team (32-16, 19-3) picked up two more conference wins to add on to their single-season conference wins record, sweeping Northwest Tech at Lady Saints Field 10-2 in game one winning from the run-rule before holding on for a 7-4 victory in game two.

It was another historic day for the Seward County softball team (29-15, 16-2), sweeping the Dodge City Conquistadors at Lady Saint Field.  The 5-0 game one victory put Monique Ashley in sole possession of most all-time wins, while their 10-3 game two win gave the Lady Saints their most conference wins in program history.

The Seward County softball team (27-15, 14-2) picked up two more Jayhawk Conference wins on Sunday, sweeping the Pratt Beavers as Monique Ashley tied the Seward County record for most career wins after picking up two more against the Beavers.  Ashley started in game one with the Lady Saints winning 15-4, while coming in for relief in game two as the Lady Saints rallied for a 14-6 victory.
