No. 3 Saints lose to No.2 ASA (Miami), beat No. 9 Harford

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The third-ranked Seward County Community College men's tennis team gained a split of its matches on the second day of the Pensacola Invitational. The Saints, who are 4-4, lost to No. 2 ASA (Miami), 7-2, but defeated No. 9 Harford, 8-1, on Sunday.

 

ASA (MIAMI)

Seward managed two victories, one in singles and one in doubles, both at the No. 1 slots, against ASA (Miami).  Nic Rousset battled back from a one-set deficit to beat Toru Horie, 6-7, 6-4 10-4, while Gabe Nery and Sander Jans beat Tao Castillo and Horie, 9-8.

In the other singles matches, No. 2 Hugo Lobo lost to G. Cruz, 2-6, 0-6, No. 3 Nery fell to Sergio Ingles, 1-6, 4-6, No. 4 Jans was defeated by Matt Carroll, 4-6, 6-3, 4-10, No. 5 Francisco Vargas was beaten by Tomas Santantonio, 3-6, 2-6 and No. 6 Carlo Izurieta lost to Castillo, 2-6, 0-6.

In the other doubles matches, Rousset and Lobo lost to Ingles and Carroll, 4-8, and Izurieta and Francisco were defeated by Vargas and Santantonio, 5-8.

 

HARFORD

Seward got back on track by winning eight of the nine matches against Harford.

In the singles matches, No. 1 Nic Rousset beat Thomas Norwood, 6-4, 7-6, No. 2 Sander Jans defeated Artur Etzberger, 6-1, 6-2, No. 4 Francisco Vargas knocked off John Brett, W 6-1, 6-0, No. 5 Edgar Fougerit won over Finlay Rowan, 6-1, 6-2, and No. 6 Franck Soulerot beat Alberto Villarmil, 6-1, 6-1.

The only loss for the Saints came when No. 3 Gabe Nery retired because of an injury in his match against Adam Larsen, tied at 6-0, 5-7.

Seward swept in doubles with Nery and Jans defeating Norwood and Etzberger, 8-3, Edgar Fougerit and Hugo Lobo cruising past Larsen and Brett, 8-1 and Carlo Izurieta and Vargas beating Bruno Brocanelli and Rowan, 8-2.
