Seward suffers loss to Division II foe Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. -- The third-ranked Seward County Community College men's tennis team lost at Division II Cameron University, 4-3, on Friday.

The Saints, who fell to 0-2, struggled on the singles side dropping four of the six matches. Nicolas Rousset and Sander Jans were the only SCCC single winners. Rousset bounced back from a loss at Air Force to claim his first win of the spring with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Vinicius Santos at No. 1 singles while Jans beat Przemyslaw Zielinski, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

In the other singles matches, Gabriel Nery lost to Oscar del Granado, 3-6, 4-6, Francisco Vargas was upended by Mritunjay Badola, 5-7, 4-6, Carlo Izurieta was beaten by Julen Gutierrez 4-6, 5-7 and Edgar Fougerit lost to Pierre Marion, 1-6, 4-6.

Seward fared better in doubles competition, winning two out of the three matches to take the doubles point. Rousset and Fougerit beat Zielinski and Badola, 7-6 (11-9), and Izurieta and Vargas knocked off del Granado and Marion, 6-4 while Nery and Jans lost their match to Santos and Gutierrez, 6-4.

Seward hosts Cowley at noon Friday at Blue Bonnet Park.
