Saints Split Maches on the First Day of Play in Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The #3 Seward County men's tennis team at the end of a double header is 1-1. First the Saints took on #2 ASA Miami and lost 3-6 and then in the second match the men had a lot more fight in their game, and it show by winning against  #10 Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) 7-2.

MATCH ONE RECAP

After being started and then postponed twice due to rain, the guys started with high energy that never fade against ASA Miami.

ASA swept doubles with No.3 Carlo Izurieta and Ben Finet losing 4-8 against Tomas Santantonio and Alejandro Dure Nunez. Next was No.1 Nicolas Rousset and Hugo Lobo who fought hard but lost 5-8 against Tin Chen and Sergio Ingles. Finally No.2 Duro Opacic and Tim Lamare lost 5-8 to Kentaro Mizuchima and Andres Cabezas.

Singles play was just as close. No.1 Rousset was first to finish losing to Chen 2-6 both sets. No.6 Franck Soulerot lost to Santantonio 1-6, 2-6 and was the clenching match for ASA. Next was No.5 Izurieta where the Saints got a win 7-6, 6-2 against Mizuchima.

The next three was No.4, No.2, and No.3 where the saints won two of those three. No.4 Lamare lost against Cabezas 2-6, 3-6 while No.2 Opacic won 5-7, 5-2 and then ASAs Ingles defaulted due to injury. Last was No.3 Lobo who won against Martin Mendoza 3-6, 6-4, 10-4.

The Saints took this loss and moved on to prepare for ABAC that same evening.

MATCH TWO RECAP

The Saints trailed at the end of doubles 1-2. No.3 finished with Rento Santos and Finet winning 8-4 against Victor Paulio and Juan Pino Conoleon. No.1 Lobo and Rousset lost to Fredric Fibleuil and Ferdinand Spickhoff 6-8 and No.2 Opacic and Lamare lost to Matthias Rogel and Lukas Zavrel 5-8.

The Saints were down 1-2 but that didn't last long as the Saints swept singles and went 6-0. No.6 Soulerot led off the winning defeating Nicholas Roatti 6-0, 6-3. No.4 was next to finish with Lamare defeating Zavrel 6-1, 7-5. Following them was No.2 Opacic defeating Rogel 7-5, 6-3.

Clenching the match for the Saints was No.3 Lobo who won 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 against Spickhoff. No.1, Rousset finished next winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 against Fibleuil and then finally No.5 Izurieta won against Paulino in back and forth sets 6-7, 6-2, 10-3.

The Saints are now 14-2 overall with one more match to play down in Florida against Midlothian Community College.
