#3 Saints Dispatch Barton in Jayhawk Showdown
Playing their first match against a junior college opponent all season, the #3 Seward County Saints didn't miss a beat Tuesday afternoon in Great Bend, easily handing #22 Barton 8-1 to improve to a perfect 6-0 on the year.
Seward took an early 2-1 lead in the match after doubles action as 7th ranked Ronzai Saurombe and Vitor Galvao were all over Barton's Alvaro Martinez and Vitor Schueler 8-1 in #1 doubles and Tare Mariga and Paul Arslanian blanked Trevor Carey and Tristan Jones 8-0 in #3 doubles for the Saints.
In singles play it was another dominating performance by Seward. Saurombe had no trouble with Martinez at #1, winning 6-0, 6-3 while Galvao put it on Schueler at #2 singles 6-1, 6-0. The Saints clinched the match as Alvaro Regnifo downed Dominick Fabiano 6-1, 6-0 at #3 singles and Seward's control of the match continued at #4 where 31st ranked Felipe Casares beat Matthew Rochat 6-0, 6-1. The Saints finished up the sweep in singles play at Mariga and Arslanian took care of business 6-0, 6-1, and 6-0, 6-0 respectively at #5 and #6 as Seward brought home the road win 8-1.
The Saints remain unbeaten at 6-0 on the season and are 47-7 in total matches played this year.
Seward will undoubtedly get their toughest test of the year in their next outing as they meet up with 4th ranked Cowley in a showdown of two of the top five teams in the country in Arkansas City Saturday.
