Saints Blank Coyotes in 9-0 Sweep
With a redesigned lineup due to a national rule change, the #6 Seward County Saints dominated the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes Friday afternoon in Salina by a score of 9-0.
Doubles action was first and it was all green and white on the scoreboard. 7th ranked Ronzai Saurombe and Vitor Galvao put it on Leo Mendez and Samin Lopez 8-2 in #1 singles and Felipe Casares and Des'mne Curtis did the same at #2, beating Daniel Railsback and Liam Kohmeyer 8-3 to give Seward a 2-0 lead in the match. At #3 it was another lopsided battle as a pair of Saints playing in their first official matches with the team went to work as Tare Mariga and Paul Arslanian gave Seward a 3-0 lead with an 8-1 win over PJ Deloney and Mitchell Byers.
In singles it was more Seward domination. Saurombe defended his #10 national ranking with a 6-1, 6-0 drubbing of Lopez and 14th ranked Galvao downed Mendez 6-2, 6-0 to clinch the match for the Saints. Alvaro Regnifo earned a 6-1, 6-1 win in his first match as a Saint at #3 singles and Casares took care of business with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Byers at #4 to put Seward up 7-0. Mariga won 6-0, 6-1 at #5 singles and Arslanian barely broke a sweat with a 6-0, ret. win at #6 singles to complete the sweep for the Saints.
Seward improves to 3-0 on the year with the victory while Kansas Wesleyan drops their first match of the 2015 spring season.
Next up for Seward is a match with Southwestern College on Tuesday in Winfield before hosting their home opener on March 21st against Tabor.
