Saints Struggles Continue

The #20 Seward County Saints are in a bit of a rut right now and they picked the wrong time in the season for it.  The Saints dropped their third straight match and fifth in their last six outings Tuesday in Wichita as Region VI rival Johnson County took it to the guys in green 7-2 in a match that actually only had four matches played.

After winning an ITA National Championship in the fall and being ranked #1 in the ITA rankings, Seward's Ronzai Saurombe and Alejandro's spring troubles continued on Tuesday as they fell 8-5 to Spartak Rahachou and Kevin Koschersperger of Johnson County for their fourth loss in nine chances this season.  The Cavaliers picked up another win at #2 doubles with an 8-4 decision and a Seward forfeit gave Johnson a 3-0 lead after doubles action.

Only two singles matches were played in the dual.  At the top spot it was 8th ranked Rahachou taking down 41st ranked Gonzalez 6-1, 6-2 and at #3 singles the Saints Trevor Kipping kept his big freshman year going with a come from behind 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Taylor Smith to give Seward their first point of the match.  Saurombe got a forfeit win at #2 singles, while Seward gave up points at #4, #5, and #6 singles to give Johnson County a 7-2 win.

Seward's slow spring continues as they fall to 2-7 on the year.  The Saints also fall to 1-3 in Jayhawk Conference action.

The Saints will play their regular season finale on April 19th when they travel to Winfield, Kansas where they will take on McPherson in a dual.
