The Saints defeat the Tigers 66-56 in the Greenhouse

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College defeats Cowley College 66-56 in the Greenhouse on Saturday night. The Saints are now 5-6 on the season and 3-4 in conference play with one more game at Northwest Kansas Technical College on Monday at 8:30 PM before the holiday break. Seward County exchanged leads in the first half but never lost the lead in the second half and outscored the Tigers 43-31 in the second half to secure the victory.

The Saints started the game with a 15-8 lead over the Tigers at the 14:22 mark in the first half after a Malachi McReed reverse layup. Cowley cut the lead down to two points after a pair of free throws as Seward County led 19-17 with 6:50 left in the half. The Tigers took a 25-24 lead with 1:30 remaining in the first half and neither team scored in the remaining minute as the Saints went into halftime down 25-24.

Seward County trailed 31-30 as Kevon Cooper gave the Saints the lead with a three from the top of the key with 17:17 left in the game, 33-31. Taye Donald gave the Saints a 46-40 advantage after a layup on the left side with 10:36 left. Off of an assist by Donald Dubinsky connected on one of his four threes to give Seward County a 53-44 lead with 6:30 on the clock.

The Saints added the exclamation point with a behind-the-back assist by Donald that led to a Cooper dunk to give Seward County a 65-54 advantage with a minute left. The Saints went on to win 66-56 over the Tigers and snapped a three-game losing streak. 

Erik Pratt led the way for Seward County with 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Cooper and Dubinsky added 12 points apiece in the win.

Seward County will compete against the Mavericks in Goodland, Kansas at 8:30 PM CT on Monday, December 13th.
