Saints post fourth straight win with 86-55 triumph at Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. – Kyle Cardaci had 18 points and Greg Johnson added 14 points to lead the Saints basketball team to an 86-55 blowout win at Dodge City Community College on Saturday. Seward County Community College, which extended its winning streak to a season-high four games, improved to 12-7 overall and 5-5 in the Jayhawk West, tied for fourth with Pratt.

Seward is used to close games coming down to the last minute as well as squandering leads, but not this time. The Saints were all over the Conquistadors from the start and never stepped off the gas.

The Saints jumped out to a 10-0 lead on a three-point play by Rostyslav Novitskyi followed by a pair of Sam Henderson layups and a three-pointer from Johnson.  Seward held a double-digit lead at 19-8 with 11:10 left, but then outscored Dodge 17-4 and opened a 36-12 advantpost fourth straigage with under five minutes remaining. The Saints led 51-20 at the half.

It was much of the same in the second half as Seward bombarded Dodge City and led by as many as 43 points before cruising to the victory.

Ramiro Santiago scored 10 points and Surakata Jawara, Stephen Takyi and Henderson added eight points each for Seward, which had every player in the scoring column.

The Saints, who had all 11 players record at least 10 minutes each, were dominant on ball sides of the court. Seward shot over 47 percent from the field (29-of-61), including 40 percent from three-point range (8-of-20) while holding Dodge City to just 24 percent (15-of-62). The Saints forced 19 turnovers and had 12 steals and seven blocks.

Miles Ray had 14 points and Deatrick Pashell and Akin Newton chipped in with eight points each for Dodge City, which fell to 8-11 overall and remained winless, along with Northwest Tech, in the Jayhawk West at 0-10.

Seward hosts Colby Community College at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Greenhouse.
