Saints Cruise Past Redlands

DODGE CITY, Kan. - One night after an historic win in regards to margin of victory, the Seward County Saints picked right up where they left of, scoring early and often against Redlands Community College, while their vaunted defense held the Cougar's high flying offense in check, coming away with a resounding 101-48 victory in their second game of the Conq Classic at Dodge City.

Redlands had just come off a big 102-87 victory over Conq Classic host Dodge City Community College the night before. However their star of that game, guard AJ McNeil, injured a knee and was held out of the game against the Saints as a precaution. Clearly the Cougar offense suffered without the presence of McNeil on the floor

The game looked to be a shootout from the very first minute, as both teams connected on a three pointer to start their scoring. But the Saints took over from there, scoring the next 10 points and opening up a double digit lead they would never relinquish. Midway through the first half, the Saints offense committed turnovers on four consecutive possessions, but the defense was holding Redlands scoreless during that time, thwarting any hopes of a Cougar comeback.

The Saints went into the halftime break leading 43-22. The second half saw more of the same, as Seward County extended their lead. All in all, nine Saints players hit the scoring column, with Devin Bethely and Isaiah Small dishing out assists on many of the Saints' second half baskets. The only question remaining towards the end of the game was whether or not the Saints would hit the century mark for the second straight night, which happened with a little over one minute left in the game.

Due to a computer error, there were no official stats available for the game. Unofficially, Small led five Saints players in double figures with 18, followed by Marco Morency and Hegel Augustine with 17. Tre Flowers had 15, and Bethely finished the game with 10.

The Saints finish the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 5-1 record. Their next action will be the conference opener, as they travel to Butler to play the Grizzlies at the Power Plant on Wednesday, November 28, with the game starting at 7:30 p.m. The Saints return to home action on Saturday, December 1 verses Cloud County, with tip-off in the Greenhouse at 8:00 p.m.
