Preview: Saints try to reach .500 in conference play

LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County men's basketball team plays their final home game of November tomorrow night (Nov. 29) when they host the Cowley Tigers at 8:00 p.m. inside the Greenhouse.

The Saints (6-3, 2-3) defeated Pratt 80-62 last Saturday and will look to reach .500 in conference play since 2015. In the win over the Beavers, four Saints reached double figures – Ke'Sean Davis (19 points), Mohamed Selmi (15 points), Isiah Small (13 points) and Jamel Horton (10 points).  Small also added 13 rebounds to complete his first career double-double.

Seward hit 47.3 percent of their shots against the Beavers, while holding Pratt to 36.4 percent.  Selmi came away with a career-high five blocks in the game.

Despite coming off the bench for all but one game, Small leads the Saints in scoring with 12.8 points/game.  Davis adds 12.3 points/game, while Devin Bethely contributes 10.3 points/game.  The Saints are shooting nearly 50 percent from the field, connecting on 47.5 percent of the shots they take.  Seward outscores opponents by 12 points/game.

Defensively, Selmi has been guarding the paint, coming away with 1.6 blocks/game.  Horton and Small both come away with 1.2 steals/game.

Cowley (7-2, 4-1) is coming off their first conference loss of the season, a 79-86 loss to Barton.  The Tigers had three players reach double-digits in the loss – Jeremiah Starks (18 points), Darnell Cowart (17 points), and Cole Kinnamon (15 points).  Cowley shot well below their season average, connecting on just 35.2 percent of their shots.

Cowart leads the Tigers in scoring with 15.7 points/game, while Cedric Rembert adds another 10.3 points/game.  Cowart also leads the Tigers in rebounds with 7.6 per game. Defensively, Rembert comes away with 2.3 steals per game, while Brenden Van Dyke blocks nearly two shots per game.

Seward is looking to end a two-game losing streak against Cowley, with their last win coming on Dec. 5, 2015 in a 78-71 win in Arkansas City. The Saints hold the all-time series record 20-10.
