After a long and heated recruiting journey over the past six months, Seward County All-American Niem Stevenson has finally decided a landing spot for the final two years of his collegiate career. Tuesday, the Dallas native signed to return to the Lone Star State, taking his talents to Lubbock to join the Texas Tech Red Raiders next season.

Two of the greatest Saints to ever don a Seward County jersey were enshrined into the Saints Athletics Hall of Fame Friday night at the annual Athletics/Hall of Fame Banquet in the Greenhouse. Carlo Walton and Kevin Houston, both Men’s Basketball All-American’s returned to Liberal for the weekend, sharing stories with the crowd of their glory days with the Saints in the mid-90’s.

In the 47 years of Seward County Men’s Basketball, there has been a book full of history written which has included records set and records broken, first, seconds, and thirds of many different things, but with the release of Thursday’s NJCAA All-Americans list, Saint sophomore Niem Stevenson made a piece of history that has never been done before at Seward County. Stevenson was named a 1st Team NJCAA All-American, in and of itself a feat, the first time a Seward player has been named 1st Team All-American since 2012, but more historically, Stevenson becomes the first Seward player in program history to ever be named NJCAA All-American twice after receiving Honorable Mention accolades in 2014.

It was a fitting end in more than one way Wednesday as the Jayhawk Conference released its final KJCCC Player of the Week award winners for Men's Basketball. For the final week of the regular season, Seward County's Niem Stevenson and Hutchinson's Bashier Ahmed, two high level athletes that went at it all year long, share the award, Stevenson's seventh time to collect the honors this season and tenth time in his career which sets a school record.

Seward County Head Coach Bryan Zollinger has been preaching toughness and grit through his team’s recent struggles down the stretch in Jayhawk Conference play but yet again Saturday afternoon in Dodge City, he saw little of that as the Saints gave up 46 first half points and couldn’t slow the Conquistadors down enough in the second half to prevent their sixth loss in seven games to assure themselves of back to back losing conference records for the first time in 10 seasons.

The Seward County Saints finished off a regular season sweep of the Barton Cougars Saturday night in front of a big Homecoming Greenhouse crowd. Opposite of what has happened too many times to Seward this season, this time it was the Saints having a big second half on the offensive end, outscoring Barton 46-38 to come away with a heated 86-82 victory.
