Melvin Sanders
Melvin Sanders played one season for the Saints in 1999-2000 for former head coach, Dave Brown . Sanders earned Jayhawk West All-Conference and NJCAA All-Region VI in his freshman season where he led the Saints to a 23-9 overall record. Sanders made five three-point field goals in one game and made 42 three-point field goals on the season. Sanders transferred to Oklahoma State University , where he started in every Cowboys game in three seasons (94). As a junior, Sanders earned Second Team Academic All-Big 12 honors. Following his senior year, he was named Third Team All-Big 12 by the associated press and was tabbed Honorable Mention All-Big 12 by the conference coaches. Sanders was named to the National All-Defensive Team and to the Big 12 All-Defensive team by insider.com.

In this career at Oklahoma State, Sanders averaged 28.5 minutes, shot .431 from the field (351-for-814), .345 from three-point range (126-for-365) and .639 from the free-throw line. Sanders averaged 9.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.4 steals per game. Sanders led Oklahoma State University to a 65-29 overall record and a 30-18 Big XII Conference record.
After playing his senior year in Stillwater , Okla. , Sanders was invited to attend training camp with the Denver Nuggets. Sanders played in all of the Nuggets pre-season games, but was left off their regular season roster. Sanders played professionally in 2004-2005 for the Dakota Wizards in the Continental Basketball League (CBL), where he was named Second Team All-CBL and CBL All-Defensive Team. Sanders led the Wizards to a Western Conference Championship averaging 18.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Sanders made history in his one season with the Wizards, scoring 54 points in a single-game against the Rockford Lighting on March 13, 2005.
A year later, Sanders signed a contract with the San Antonio Spurts on March, 16 2006. Sanders played in 16 games, averaged 7.1 minutes, 2.6 points, 1.4 rebounds per game. Sanders shot .485 (16-for-33) and was 2-for-3 from three-point range in his NBA rookie season. Sanders posted a career-high eight points vs. Charlotte Bobcats (01/24/06) and posted a career-high five rebounds vs. Atlanta Hawks (11/15/06).
Sanders is originally from Liberal, Kansas , where he attended and graduated from Liberal High School in 1999. Sanders was an All-State basketball and track & field star in high school. Sanders was a two-time Gatorade National Track & Field Athlete of the Year and was an 11-time state champion in the triple, long and high jumps. He recorded three Kansas state high school all-time records in high jump (7'2"), triple jump (52') and long jump (25').
