Saints get two walk off wins and went 2-1 this past weekend

 

LIBERAL, Kan.- Seward County Community College baseball team beat Rose State College 2-1, Indian Hills Community College 9-8 on Saturday and fell to Indian Hills 12-8 on Sunday. The Saints have a 3-10 overall record and a 2-3 record at Brent Gould Field.

First Game

The Raiders gained a 1-0 lead after a home run in the top of the fourth inning by Iankel Santos. At the bottom of the sixth inning, the Saints responded with a double by Richard Armijo that scored Kason Haggard from second. The Saints starter Mason Martinez on the mound and he pitched seven innings with 1 earned run and season-high eight strikeouts.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the eighth inning, Seward brought out Sam Berberich to the mound and went one, two, and three. Rose State brought in Harris Shoemaker who walked the first two batters that brought up Wyatt Grant. Grant singled to deep left field that brought Zane Alexander home from second base. This was the first win of the season at home and in walk-off fashion for the Saints to bring their season record to 2-9.

Second Game 

To start the game the Falcons jumped up to an early 6-0 after the top of the fifth inning. The bottom of the fifth inning Seward responded with two runs and added another four runs in the sixth. Down 8-6, Kase Johnson hit a pop up to in short right field that dropped in for a hit that scored two runs and tied the game in the seventh inning.

Seward and Indian Hills went into extra inning and in the bottom of the ninth inning, Sam Berberich drew a walk with the bases loaded to propel the Saints to victory 9-8.

Third Game

After the first inning, the game was tied at two apiece after Wyatt Grant hit a two-run home run, his first home run if the season. After the sixth inning, both teams were tied at four apiece, but Indian Hills scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 10-4 lead.

Saints entered the ninth inning down two runs, but the Falcons added two more in the top of the 9th to expand the lead 12-8.

Saints are on the road Tuesday at Clarendon College with the first pitch scheduled for 2 PM.
