Saints Drop Shootout to Clarendon

In a game that featured 30 hits and 20 runs Wednesday afternoon in Clarendon, Texas, the Seward County Saints came up short in a 12-8 decision against the Clarendon Bulldogs, dropping their third straight game to fall to 7-12 on the year.
Things started well for the Saints on Wednesday as they put up a three run 1st inning, getting RBI singles from Nic Ricigliano and Jared Ledbetter to jump on Clarendon 3-0 before the Bulldogs even got a chance to hit.
Clarendon struck back for two in the bottom of the inning though and after one action packed frame, it was Seward 3 and Clarendon 2.
The Saints offense was quiet the next two innings though and Clarendon's wasn't as the Bulldogs put up one in the 2nd and three in the 3rd to go in front for the first time in the game at 6-3.
Seward got a run on a Logan Nethercot RBI single in the 4th but Clarendon answered with a run of their own in the bottom half to push their lead back to three at 7-4.
The Saints got a solo home run off the bat of Cody Stineman in the top of the 5th to make it a 7-5 game, but Seward pitching couldn't slow Clarendon down, allowing five runs in the bottom of the inning as the Bulldogs opened their lead up to 12-5.
Things slowed down from there as neither team was able to push anything across in the 6th or 7th innings and to the 8th the two teams went with the score still 12-5.
In the Seward 8th, the Saints got three consecutive RBI hits from Justin Graff-Rowe, Ricigliano, and Josh Nicol to make it a 12-8 game, but that was all they could muster as the Bulldogs sat the Saints down in order in the 9th to hang on for the wild 12-8 win.
The Saints lost despite 16 hits in the contest, getting base knocks from 11 different players. Six different Seward players had RBI's in the loss including Nethercot who ended the afternoon with three hits and Ricigliano and Stineman who each had two.
Seward falls to 7-12 on the year while Clarendon continues a recent hot streak, improving to 10-7.
Seward will need to rev things up this weekend when they travel to Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson to take on the rival Hutchinson Blue Dragons in a four game Jayhawk West series on Saturday and Sunday in the Salt City.
