Former Saint Gavin Glanz Drafted by Colorado Rockies

Following an exceptional two year career with Seward County and two more solid years at Oral Roberts, former Saints righthander Gavin Glanz will begin the next chapter of his baseball career after being drafted and signing with the Colorado Rockies this week.

Glanz holds the school record for winning percentage after going  16-2 in two seasons with the Saints.  He logged 159 1/3 innings in his Seward career, striking out 97 opposing hitters.  As a freshman he was a perfect 6-0, pitching the Saints to the JUCO World Series.  As a sophomore he put together one of the better seasons by a Saints pitcher in program history, going 10-2 with a 2.16 ERA in 87 1/3 innings pitched for which he was named 1st Team All-Jayhawk West.  His 10 wins as a sophomore were tied for 8th most in a single season in school history while his 2.16 ERA was 4th best.  He ranks inside the top 10 in school history in winning percentage, ERA, wins, and innings pitched.

Following his standout career with the Saints, he transferred on to Oral Roberts where he was 4-9 in two seasons.  As a senior in 2014 he was 3-5 with a 3.27 ERA, allowing opposing hitters to bat just .258 against him in a team best 82 2/3 innings of work.

Oddly enough, Glanz will start his professional career in Grand Junction, where he led the Saints to the JUCO World Series in 2011.  The Arvada, Colorado native said about signing with his hometown Rockies "I grew up dreaming of being a part of the Rockies organization and now that I have been drafted by them, I will get that opportunity."

When asked about the impact that Seward County had on his baseball career, Glanz said "Coach McSpadden and Coach Davidson really pushed me and made me find what I had inside of myself.  I learned so much in my two years at Seward both on and off the field and will certainly always carry that 'SC' with me proudly."

Glanz and the Grand Junction Rockies began their 2014 Rookie ball season on the road Monday night in Ogden, Utah with an 11-7 come from behind win.  Glanz is expected to see his first action of the season out of the Rockies bullpen on Tuesday night when they again take on the Raptors in Ogden.
