Bulldogs Nip Saints Again

Bulldogs Nip Saints Again

The Seward County Saints road woes continued on Wednesday as they fell 9-2 to Clarendon in a non-conference midweek game with the Bulldogs.

Clarendon got the scoring started early, ripping a ground rule double to begin the game and plating three runs with two outs in the 1st to go on top 3-0.

The Saints got on the board in the 2nd as Brandon Urquizo ripped a two out triple to get the Saints back to within one at 3-2.

In the 3rd the Bulldogs added to their advantage, using five hits and a pair of Seward walks to score four times to open up their lead to 7-2.

Seward threatened to cut into the lead in the top of the 4th, but a line drive headed for extra bases was snared with the bases loaded to end the threat and keep them down 7-2.

Clarendon pushed their lead to 8-2 on a solo home run in the 4th and that would be all the scoring until the 8th when the Bulldogs scored another two out run to make it 9-2.

The Saints mounted little as far as offense was concerned after failing to score with the bases loaded in the 4th.  Seward was unable to put more than one runner on base for the final five innings of the game and didn't get a runner to third base as they fell 9-2.

Clarendon outhit Seward 15-7 in the game.  Three hits for the Saints came at the top of the lineup with Reed Thompson who finished 3 for 5 while shortstop Jake Fuller was 2 for 4 in the loss.  Adam Guay took the loss on the mound for Seward, yielding 3 runs on 4 hits in the 1st.  Four Seward pitchers threw scoreless frames in the loss including Tanner Thompson, Rowdy Sheets, Grant Glaze, and Chris Juracek

SEWARD COUNTY/CLARENDON BOX SCORE

The Saints fall to 25-21 on the year with the loss while Clarendon improves to 19-20.

Next up for Seward is a return to conference action where they will battle Cloud County on Friday and Saturday at Brent Gould Field.  The Saints and T-Birds will get underway at 3:00 on Friday and 1:00 on Saturday.
