Saints weekend preview

Liberal Kan- this weekend the Seward County Community College athletic programs softball, baseball, basketball, women's basketball and volleyball will all be competing this weekend. Let the start of the travel season begin for the basketball programs.

The Women's basketball team will be in Windsor Colorado for the JUCO Jamboree. This past week was the first official week of practice and the Lady Saints are looking to use this early Jamboree to see the freshman in action versus other junior college programs. The Lady Saints will have three games all on Saturday and all with in a 5-hour span so they will get a good understanding of the speed of the game and get a glimpse into what the season will entail.

The Men's Basketball team also on the road this weekend to Fort Worth, Texas for a Jamboree as well. They will be competing in three games on Saturday starting at 9am, followed by a 11am game and the last game starting at 1pm. Going up against Shelton State first, then Coastal Bend and wrapping up the Fort Worth Jamboree against Bossier Parish. A great opportunity for the young players to see other competition in the Junior College and for sophomores to get recognized by the four-year schools that will be there to recruit player.

With the weather moving towards fall the Baseball team will be in action if the weather permits. They will be traveling to Canyon, Texas to take on West Texas A&M University at 1pm. Then the Saints will turn around and have an intersquad scrimmage here in Liberal Kansas. The home game on Sunday vs. Wichita Reds has been canceled and at this time it will not be rescheduled.

For the Lady Saints Softball team this is a big weekend as they will have four games in two days, which is more games than they have had during the fall schedule. They will travel to Norman Oklahoma for these games. On Friday October fourth they will take on Connors State College at 2:30pm followed by taking on the host team The University of Oklahoma's varsity program at 7pm. The next day Saturday October fifth the Lady Saints will be back on the field at 10am to take on Trinity Valley Community College and wrap up the weekend with Seminole State College at 12:15pm.

The No. 4 Lady Saints are back in action after a week off to face Independence at home for another Jayhawk west show down. The Lady Saints are coming into the match up undefeated in conference play and they still have not lost a set in conference play with a 14-2, 8-0 conference record. Yanlis Feliz is coming into the match with a lot of press after receiving KJCCC, NJCAA, AVCA Player of the Week awards. Independence is entering the match 8-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The Lady Saints will be facing off against Pirates on Saturday, October 5th at 6:30pm in the Greenhouse.
